Chelsea given the green light to move for £50 million striker

Posted by Cathal Breathnach on July 12, 2009 | 17 Comments

Chelsea are ready to make a £50 million move for Inter Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic after the player admitted he is very flattered to be linked with the Premier League giants.

When asked about the possibilty of a summer move to Stamford Bridge, the Swedish striker had this to say : ”I am fully aware that Chelsea want to sign me and, of course, it is very flattering. They are one of the biggest teams in Europe and the Premier League is one of the best leagues in the world.”

Chelsea boss Carlos Ancelotti is desperate to bring in a new striker this summer and Ibrahimovic is understood to be one of his leading targets. Ibrahimovic, 27, has in recent times claimed that he may be ready for a new challenge and Chelsea are preparing to test Inter’s resolve with a £50 million bid.

I have always been a huge fan of Ibrahimovic’s and I would love to see him arrive at Stamford Bridge in the coming weeks. During his three years at the San Siro, Ibrahimovic has scored an impressive 65 goals in all competitions and I’m sure if he was to arrive in England, he would score bags of goals. It will be interesting to see what happens in the coming weeks, so stay tuned to Football Corner.

Whay do you think will happen? Comments below please.

If Chelsea can bag this striker they will be deadly next season. Imagine a striker duo of Ibra and Drogba. Tehy are both extremely strong and will be close to unstoppable. It is a pity that a lot of people in England do not see his talent. It is true that he has not succeeded very well in the champions league but with chelsea he will have the best possible support and he won’t have the constant pressure of being the only superstar.

Ibra would be awesome for Chelsea. He is tall but has excellent balance and excellent quick feet. At the moment Chelsea are a one trick side that become toothless up front without Drogba playing. Ibra would give us a plan b and c! My only problem with this transfer would be ‘if’ Carvalho were to be included in the deal. ‘If’ Terry goes we definately need to hang onto Carvalho!

The only thing i have to say is that Ibra is a kind of player we need to pair with Drogba. This is a player that has good skills, fast and trickish. With this, Chelsea will be very dangerous next season

Chelsea need sum1 like ibra. He’s the link in making chelsea become a powerful force via his attacking point of veiw. Also, i’m tired of chelsea’s tactics(pass the ball up the field then back to cech rather than making an attack on goal).

This is sure the only way to have a shot at the champions cup. We need Ibra most especially when Drogba will not be available at the early stages of the champions competetition.

    Cech
    Maicon – Carvalho – Alex – Cole
    Essien – Mikel – Lampard
    Ballack/Deco
    Ibrahimovic – Drogba

Sell Terry to Man City for £50m and sign Maicon and Ibra. I don´t think Anchelotti will continue Chelseas habit of playing 4-3-3 and I with Rui Costa, Pirlo, Rivaldo and Kaka he has a record of wanting to use a “number 10″, a very offensive midfielder.
Carvalho is just as good as Terry, Terry is sick of Chelsea and Man City are insane so why not accept the bid?
I would rather see Villa than Ibra but Ibra is still a very good player. During the last couple of years Chelsea have played as a machine, but when the machinery does´t work it´s good to have a player such as Ibra that can create something on his own. I´m a bit worried about were the speed would come from in the attack.
Bosingwa is a good player but not really as good as he should be, as he needs to be. Maicon would be awesome. But otherwise I would like to see an attacking midfielder of top-class, someone that can really lead the team. Ballack might be able to do it. But Ribery, Sneijder or Diego, who unfortunately signed for Juventus this summer, would be great signings.

Ibra is a good player with plenty of skills, however two big men up front would not work for chelsea and for 50mill and probs deco + carvalho would rather see an aguero or dzeko + sneijder who are young. (Would be hard to cash in on him if he does flop like sheva) Ibra is also very lazy when he doesn’t feel like playing. and please don’t sign pirlo. C’mon the blues!
