Sign Tevez & Manchester City will break into the Top Four this season

It’s a strong opinion but I firmly do believe it. Manchester City will break into the top four next season if they complete the signing of Carlos Tevez.
No matter who you support, there’s no denying that Mark Hughes is building a strong side well capable of challenging right at the top of the Premier League table. The signings of Gareth Barry and Roque Santa Cruz certainly make City a stronger team and if /when the world’s richest club sign Tevez, there’s no doubt in my mind that Manchester City will finish in the top four.
In every department, City look strong. In goals, they have one of, if not the best keeper in the league in Shay Given. They’re defence looks solid with the likes of Vincent Kompany and Wayne Bridge likely to feature. Hughes has an abundance of quality midfield players to chose from next season with Gareth Barry, Nigel de Jong, Michael Johnson, Stephen Ireland and Elano all vying for two spots.
Robinho and Shaun Wright-Phillips on either wing with Santa Cruz and Tevez up front, City should, on paper, be scoring a hell of a lot goals. The biggest critiscim placed on City last season was their inability to win on the road, however, I personally feel their away form will no doubt improve with quality additions likes Tevez, Santa Cruz and Barry.
So who will City replace in the top four?
Well the obvious answer to that would be Arsenal. As of now, Arsene Wenger has failed to add any real quality to the Arsenal squad during the summer transfer window. In my opinion, the signing of Thomas Vermaelen from Ajax earlier this summer, doesn’t really make Arsenal a better side and as a result, I think Arsenal will be the side to miss out on a Champions League place next season.

spot on, city may replace arsenal in top 4. i still think city are short in defence with dunney heading for the exit, a quality replacement in JT or lescott then its a real possibility, i just hpoe all the new signing can all gel in well early on in the season as there is loads of pressure on city this season.

Arsenal win the league!!!!! The last place the gunners will be going this season is up. You’re dreaming!

lol arsenal win the league. they havent got the squad. its between the scousers, chelsea or the red half of manchester with arsenal coming in 4th.
City top 4 lol. Dont think so. They aint getting top 4 this season. They may be finalists in the fa cup or summat but i think they are too hot and cold for even that.
I also think top 7 is all they can achieve with hughes at the wheel.
He is not a title contending manager.

quite right, city are going to be one of the top teams in world football over the next few years. unbelievable when you think not so long ago they were in the old 3rd division remarkable comeback for a remarkable club league founder members with fantastic loyal supporters.

snigz, wake up from your red tinted glasses. Tevez walked away from United. Red nose begged him to stay. one red team is going to have to make way for City and it won’t be the pool or the scum
July 12th, 2009 @ 10:02 pm
snigz obviously worried bout us then!!

ihave supported da goonerz all my life and am afraid what u sayn is just about 2 come reality,as i think this by faaaaaaar the worse arsenal squad in longggg time, altho we would still have a chance of finishing 4th if city dnt sort their defence out, they need add a couple of defenders then maybe they will have ore of a chance WINNING the TITLE than finshing in top 4.

I think Arsenal will be improved with ArseShavin – they looked good towards the end of the year….but like Liverpool they are too reliant on a few key individuals… if Torres/Gerrard/Carragher get any sort of injury the Scouser will be rudderless, if Adebayor, Fabergas, Arshavin Arsenal will have the same fate and then City *may* (and I stress the may will have a chance/sniff at 4th place).
I see United as weaker this season no matter what is said the replacements for Tevez and Ronaldo are much weaker players so I can’t see past Chelsea this season
As a City fan I’d be happy with a strong season finishing 5th/6th we have to be realistic – Top 4 would be a superb but despite the money spent the players still have to gell as a team which is why I don’t think we’ll get there this year unless one of the four really are poor… Should be interesting as many of last seasons signings (De Jong, Robinho, Kompany, Bridge) weren’t reguarly playing previously and adapting to their first full season so they should be stronger this year…
Either way this season i going to be fun – can’t wait !!!

Bridge v Clichy
Toure v Kompany
Dunne v Gallas
Sagna v Richards
Robinho v Arshavin
Fabregas v Ireland
Denilson v Elano
Rosicky v SWP
Adebayor v Roque Cruz
RVP v Tevez
Bench: Nasri, Eduardo da Silva, Walcott, Vermaelen, Diaby, Vela
Present it to anyone who knows their football, and not in one category do you win.
Have City become the new Spurs? Perpetual delusion.
You still have 2,3 seasons and £300M to go my friends.
Peace and love

Homer is forgetting Barry, Johnson, Petroz, BonJovi, Zambeleta, Onuha Weizz and De Jong. City have got a first eleven and a bench. The summer spending is not over yet.
Arsenal fans are running scared. They know once they lose their top four place, it will be impossible to keep their decent players. Look at the last few years, they’ve had CL football and still lost their better players. Arsenal will be the new Spurs. Their only hope is the massive debt the Scum and the Scoucers are in.
July 12th, 2009 @ 10:45 pm
Homer that isn’t City’s strongest team, and you missed the GK position. Man for man Arsenal do seem stronger but last season they seemed very short of experience and I think we all witnessed how they were weakened without that.
How about: (CAPITAL WINS/DRAWS)
almunia – GIVEN
CLICHY v BRIDGE
TOURE v kompany
GALLAS v onuoha
sagna v ZABALETA
ROSICKY v swp
FABREGAS v ireland
denilson v BARRY
ARSHAVIN v ROBINHO
ADEBAYOR v roque cruz
VAN PERSIE v TEVEZ

City needs another defender if their going to break the top 4. JT or Lescott would be superb. Then the team is definitively going to press on of the so called top 4 out of their spot. And this would mean dissaster for one of them. They all depend on the money the collect from the Champions league.
July 12th, 2009 @ 11:05 pm
Homer, now that your second biggest share holder has come out and said that you can’t compete in the transfer market, are you becoming a bit touchy? Wake up and smell the coffee, arsenal will be lucky to be in the top 7 next season.

Friends,
Arsenal don’t only have a stronger 1st 11, they have a stronger squad. They have Gibbs & Traore as back up for Clichy. Eboue as back up for Sagna. Sagna BTW is a much better right back than Zabalyeta. Best in the league in 07/08.
Even if you got Eto’o, Tevez, Terry & Kaka you’d still be weaker than Arsenal. That’s how big the gap is. It’s fashionable to underrate Arsenal but you’re talking of a squad that’s played 13 straight Chmapions Leagues, semi-finals last year.
The biggest gap is Wenger v Hughes…..Sorry boys, Pat Rice is a better manager than Hughes, talk less of Wenger.
Wish you all the best though. The more teams that can take away points off the likes of Man U and Liverpool, the better for the league.

umm homer if im not wrong manC beat arsenal 3-0 last season.. wit our if not weaker side(missin bridge, dejong, bellamy, elano).. so if manC can do that then im sure manC are strong enough to contend for top 4… watch out
July 13th, 2009 @ 10:53 am
PAT RICE……that’s who it is!
Thought you had Elton John on the bench Homer.
I was redaing your comments with (minimal) interest until the Eto’o, Tevez, Kaka, Terry comment.
With this, you have shown just what a blinkered idiot you really are.
