Xabi Alonso now odds-on to leave Liverpool

Posted by on July 14, 2009 | 9 Comments

It looks as though Xabi Alonso’s days as a Liverpool player are coming to an end.

Bookmakers SkyBet have today made Alonso 4/9 not to be a Liverpool player next season, with Spanish giants Real Madrid looking the most likely destination.

Alonso has apparently told Rafa Benitez that he wants to leave Anfield as soon as possible, however Liverpool will only sell if their £35 million valuation of the player is met.

Although I am not a Liverpool fan, I would be devastated to see Alonso leave the Premier League. He is a cracking player who will, no doubt be sorely missed on Merseyside and personally I think Liverpool will struggle to sustain a title challenge next season without him.

What do you think? Comments below please.

Skybet also had Ribery as being odds on to join Liverpool and we all know how likely that is, now don’t we. Real Madrid have come out and stated and this has been backed up by Mr. Ballague as being well in the know that they have made they’re final offer, for now, it’s well short of the asking price, therefore Stalemate. And if he does go, it certainly won’t end Liverpool’s title challenge, he is a significant player but Liverpool wouldn’t depend on him as much as Utd would depend on Ronaldo who hasn’t been anywhere near replaced at Old Trafford.

skybet missed on Owen odds, missed again on Ribery Odds , maybe they will be 3rd time lucky with Alonso’s odds . But they will be lucky if real madrid match Liverpool’s valuation of Xabi . anything less , Alonso will still be a Liverpool player come 1st september , Xabi is an important player for Liverpool ,it will be a blow for the team BUT I’m pretty sure RAFA has plan B for the situation .YNWA

    @ YNWA -

When did I ever mention that Liverpool are a one man team?

In fact, I think they’re anything but a one man team, I think they have several quality players, who in my mind, will win the Premier League title next season.

i wrote last pre season that rafa was right to put alonso up for sale because he was just going through the motions cruising through games but i hoped that he would stay and realise that he has to perform and this is what he has done, he was one of our best players last season. real madrid have robbed us twice with owen and macmanaman – no more.

CathalBreathnach……Sorry,I did not hear it from you, so it wasn’t meant for you….but you know as well as I do that we have been hearing it all season…and it got quite boring. We have got a lot of quality now, that is why other top teams want to buy quite a few of our players, ye?…So RAFA IS doing a great job…it is just the Media that’s got it in for Liverpool, don’t ask me why, Cause it baffles me as well.

Is it just me or could Liverpool actually hold on to Alonso if they want him? I mean, Villa did it really well after Barry came out asking for the move last summer (which Alonso hasn’t done yet) and Barry responded accordingly. Alonso could stay…

How Liverpool will do this coming season after Alonso leaves really depends on who Rafa buys to replace him. Perhaps there is better out there waiting? Alonso sprays the ball well but is slow and often makes late tackles costing us… I think Rafa will replace him with a better player, although I’m not sure who that might be because Rafa always surprises us with his signings. I bet he has already thought of more than one he would be willing to buy.
