Busy day in the transfer market

It has been a busy busy day in the transfer market with Sunderland, Wigan and Aston Villa all featured.
Scotland arrives at the JJB
Wigan have today completed the signing of Swansea striker Jason Scotland. Scotland, 30, has been strongly linked with a move to Wigan ever since Roberto Martinez, former Swansea boss, took over at the JJB Stadium. Scotland has put pen to paper on a two-year deal and the £2.4 million move will be complete once the player has received international clearance, which is unlikely to cause any problems.
Crouch on his way to Sunderland
Portsmouth striker Peter Crouch is today holding talks with Sunderland after the two clubs agreed a £12 million fee. The England international has been strongly linked with a move away from Fratton Park in recent weeks, with several Premier League clubs interested, however Steve Bruce appears to have taken the lead in the race. Crouch, 28, recently criticised Pompey for not appointing a new manager and it looks as though his future now lies away from the south coast.
Downing in talks with Villa
Stewart Downing has been linked with a whole host of clubs following Middlesbrough’s relegation to the Championship, however Aston Villa must now be favourites to secure Downing’s signature. Martin O’Neill has agreed a £12 million fee to take the England winger to Villa Park, however Downing’s current injury problems may delay the move.
