Arsenal keen to bring £10 million England midfielder to the Emirates

Arsenal are reportedly ready to make a £10 million bid for Wigan midfielder Lee Cattermole.
The England under-21 international impressed during last season’s Premier League and continued his good form in this summer’s European under-21 Championships.
Former Wigan boss, Steve Bruce has been strongly linked with a move for Cattermole, 21, in recent weeks, with Sunderland willing to cough up £7 million. That is below Wigan’s valuation of the player and as a result has seen Sunderland cool their interest, leaving Arsene Wenger in the clear to make a move.
It is thought that Wigan are willing to let Cattermole leave the JJB if a bid of £10 million is made. Arsenal have money to spend after the sale of Emmanuel Adebayor to Manchester City last week, and with Wenger currently in the market for a new midfielder, Cattermole is seen as a very possible arrival.
I have to admit, I’m a huge fan of Cattermole’s. He is a Roy Keane type player who really gets himself about the pitch and I think he would be a quality signing for Arsenal. He is only 21 years of age and with the right guidance, ie, Arsene Wenger, I feel he could become one of the best midfielders in the country. I would be surprised if Arsenal are the only club to match Wigan’s valuation of the player, so stay tuned to Football Corner for all the latest on Cattermole’s future.
Is Cattermole really Arsenal material? Share your thoughts on the matter by leaving a comment below.

It all depends on Wenger really . He takes in waifs and strays from all parts of the world to train into exponents of his Wengerball. Why not Cattermole ?

Why not – but I’d rather see him bring back Flamini who I think would jump at the chance.

Same old problem for Flamini, he left for money and would not take the drop and loss of face were he to return.

Any signing will do for us at the moment. I don’tknow why Arsene lets all these players we could have had slip through our fingers and then he comes out much later to tell the whole world he wanted to sign them. Players like Wayne Rooney, Ronaldo, Melo, Buffon etc etc. What strong with our manager??

he is very good player…he will be great at emirates…

Flamini would be a great buy-back but I’m getting excited at the thought of “nasty” Lee Cattermole frightening the opposition from midfield. Either would do, please, M.Wenger.

Wenger does f*** all. CAttermole is what we need so he will get a skinny bloke instead.

Ramsey destroyed him when England U21s played vs. Wales U21…and Ramsey is 3 years younger.

Is this madness?why everybody is been linked with arsenal,we shouldn’t buy any DM less than the age of 25yrs,we have young players of the age of 22-19yrs so why buy more younger ones when we have them in surplus, all we need is one striker,i prefer huntler, one defender like vidic, sell of slyvestre not eboue, senderous sell him also.

As a Wigan fan I’d be gutted to see Catts leave, but Arsenal fans should be purring at the idea of Cesc teaming up with him in midfield. He is EXACTLY what Arsenal are missing, a hard-running tough-tackler. And I mean tough.
He’s got loads of experience already yet loads of maturing still to do at 21 and a fantastic player already.
Wenger would be insane not to go for him.

Agree, i don’t know what AW waits for…. Sunderland already scooped up Lorik Cana quietly. He would have been perfect for Arsenal on the DM slot. Now Bruce wants Cattermole too because like Benitez, he collects DM’s and if he could field 11 he would. We just need a single decent one so AW should just offer Wigan 12M tomorrow, sign the boy Tuesday and linger all he wants on Ade’s replacement. If wenger doesn’t sign a DM this summer we not only dont stand chance of a top 4 finish, we will most certainly loose Cesc.

I don’t mind seeing a good signing, but where will that leave Denilson, Song and Ramsey? Someone has to go before a purchase is made.

I sees him as the missing rib in our team. so wenger should make haste. Then hunter is good as well

he is a good mid fielder if wenger can sign him cos i think that is what the gunners need htis moment so that he can press on with cesc fabregas

We need midfielder and a sharp striker, and i hope catts will be good in arsenal bcuz he is one of d strongest players in wigan. But we really need a gud forward and klaas huntelaar is preferable.

Also am in support of selling sylvester, and dont try to sell kolo bcuz it wil be a disaster

ARSENAL BOARD SHOULD CONSIDER RIGHTS ISSUE
Kroenke and Fiszman are killing the club. These two guys are only interested in making money but not helping the club. Where is AST? Have they been bought by Kroenke and Fiszman? Wenger is a great coach but being frustrated by Kroenke and Fiszman. It is only the current board members (Kroenke and Fiszman) that have become big stumbling block towards the progress of the club. For heaven shake, why did they refuse the proposal of Usmanov to reduce the current choking debt? This board needs to rethink again and come up with a viable means of reducing this choking debt!!! Why in this modern world do you reject such offers with even a rider of underwriting the issues is not fully taken. I would like all sensible Arsenal fans globally to look at the scenario below:
Suppose the new rights of 500 million rights are issued at an issue price of 20 pounds!!! What will be the results of the issue?
Utilization of Funds Raised from Rights Issue Pounds (Mns)
New Funds 10,000
Less Emirate Stadium Loan 450
Less Apartment developments 200
Net Balance 350
The club will raise a total of 10 billion pounds or 10,000 million pounds. This will definitely be raised due to underwriting of the entire rights issue. How will this amount be utilized?
Arsene will enjoy pounds 350 million in developing the club further with 50 million pounds can be used to buy new players, 100 million pounds can be used for youth and academy development that will continue to develop young talented players, 50 million pounds can be used for building the club global brand name and developing global merchandise network outlets that will continue to bring new funds through sales of arsenal merchandise in the global market.
In the net analysis, the club will still have pounds 150 for any other use with a clean book without debts at all.
Please the board members look at this and come forward with a working formula that will ensure that no single shareholder should own more than 30%. The shares can be sold to all Arsenal fans in the whole world to only Arsenal fans.
I appeal once again to the board to relook at the proposal.

is a good intention, already we are scarce of english players.also pls winger should reflect on last season if not is goin to be worst morethan last season, you want to sell but you dont want to buy.this is stinginess.
July 28th, 2009 @ 8:09 am
As as die hard arsenal fan i would suggest that arsene goes for flamini as a defensive midfilder behind cesc and solomon kalou as centre foward.
