Arsenal ready to replace Toure with this £9 million Premier League defender

Posted by on July 28, 2009 | 15 Comments

With Kolo Toure close to joining Manchester City for a reported fee of £16 million, Arsenal will no doubt need to bring a new defender to the Emirates in the coming weeks.

One man who has been strongly linked with a move to Arsenal is Fulham defender Brede Hangeland. The Norwegian international was one of the Premier League’s top performers last season earning some high praise from Fulham boss Roy Hodgson.

The 28-year old has been offered a new deal at Craven Cottage, however it is believed Hangeland is waiting to see if any offers come in for him and it is now understood that Arsene Wenger is weighing up a possible £9 million bid.

Roy Hodgson has always maintained that he would never stand in Hangeland’s way if he wanted to join a bigger club. I would be a little bit surprised to still see Hangeland wearing the white of Fulham next season. There is no doubt he is one of the best defenders in the league and I feel should he sign for the Gunners, he would prove a massive success.

He would be a good signing. However the most important position is DM. Kolo n Ade will need replacing along side a no-nonsense DM. To be honest I wouldnt care if he has no techical ability, we could get the Klitchko brothers for all I care. Just someone strong, preferably tall and a great team player.

Problem is Tower, Arsene wants Nasri to be our DM!!! I for one think hes too light weight.

IF WENGER CAN SEAL THE DEAL, I THINK IT WILL BE NICE TO HAVE HIM CONSIDERING HIS HEIGHT AND HIS TECHNICAL ABILITY.I WATCHED A COUPLE OF HIS GAMES AND AM CONVINCED HE BE A GOOD REPLACEMENT FOR KOLO TOURE WHO WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE IN JANUARY.

i hope he stays in fulham, think they’re moving in the right direction under roy hodgson and losing one of their best players will set them back.

Hangeland may not be very quick but he is inteligent, reads the danger and snuffs it out. This is what we need

He’s not ‘too old’, as someone above attempted to say. It would be a like-for-like trade of ages. However, as much as it pains any Arsenal fan to admit, Kolo is past his best. Hangeland was exceptional last season, and to acquire him for £9m would be great business.

He would be PERFECT!! He will solve our height problem,he is experiencedish, and settled in EPL.Give Fulham Senderos plus £7m that is fair for both parties
