Arsenal to make shock move for Tottenham target and it’s not Huntelaar

Posted by on July 30, 2009 | 14 Comments

Arsenal have today been linked with a shock move for former captain Patrick Vieira. The Inter Milan midfielder has been consistently linked with a move to Arsenal’s fiercest rivals, Tottenham, however as of yet, Harry Redknapp has failed to secure a deal for Vieira leaving the door wide open for Arsenal to make a move.

Vieira, 33, looks set to leave the San Siro after Inter boss Jose Mourinho admitted that he would be willing to let the French international leave the club before the transfer window shuts on September 1st. It is understood that Arsene Wenger will offer Vieira a one-year deal with several bonuses to return to North London this summer, an offer that Spurs have already made.

There is no doubt that Arsenal are in the market for a new defensive midfielder this summer, however I’m not too sure what to make of this one. Vieira was a quality player during his time at Highbury (yes, I know they play in the Emirates now, but Vieira never played any league games there) , however he has got a bit old now, so I don’t know whether or not it would be a smart idea bringing him back.

I’m keen to hear what you Gunners fans have to say on this one. Comments below please.

I know Vieira was a great player and it was a wonder to watch him but when he left in 2005 After the F.A.Cup Final that was the best time for him to leave and for us Arsenal supporters the memories are the best I don’t think it would be a good idea to bring him back now sign him up yes but to work with Arsene babies and help drill them into men

It is a move to enable the signing of Huntelaar (around 17-18mil), and may be another centre half – Bassong (10-12 mil). Patrick can play a deciding role in vital games, and Arsenal can use younger players for less important games. Not perfect, but a good go-between solution to the shortage of funds.

i would love to see vieira back at arsenal to see out his career with us,if it is only for a year or two he will help our young team, plus he may even help us win a trophy.

I would laugh my ass off if Arsenal sign Vieira, because when we showed interest, the gooners could not wait to have a go at us and tell us we was after one of their cast offs, and how he had his best years before he left the arse years ago.
Now it seems he is good enough for their precious team again, At least now if we do get him we can rub it in their faces that they actually wanted him too, and it was just sour grapes. If i was Vieira and reading some of the comments their fans left, i would go to another team just to prove a point. Then come back and haunt them.
Another good thing is if they get him, it will monopolise a huge sum off their wage bill, preventing them from signing a big money signing which they all think their entitled to, now they’ve lost Toure and Adebayor. The fact is Vieira earns as much as any of them two.

This again will prove how the tide is turning, Spurs are a buying club and Arsenal are fast becoming a selling club, selling their best players and buying from the bargain basement
