Tottenham wasting their time making £21 million bid for this England midfielder

Posted by on August 9, 2009 | 12 Comments

Tottenham have once again been linked with a move for Aston Villa winger Ashley Young, with a £21 million bid likely to be made in the coming days.

Young, 24, has been continuously linked with a move away from Villa Park this summer with the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and Barcelona all understood to be monitoring his situation.

Villa boss Martin O’Neill has insisted on a number of occasions that Young is going nowhere, however that hasn’t stopped the persistent rumours surrounding the player’s future.

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp is keen to bolster his squad before the transfer window slams shut on September 1st and Young is now believed to be his number one target. Personally, I would be surprised if Young was to make the move to White Hart Lane. At the moment, Villa and Spurs are probably on a level playing field in terms of quality so unless Spurs can offer Young a significant wage-rise then I don’t envisage a move happening.

What do you think? Where will Young be playing his football this season? Is he really worth £21 million? Comments below please.

Ashley Young, if he wanted a move, could have taken his pick from a number of top champions league sides this summer.
Tottenham, as usual, are in dreamland.

spencer, don’t be daft. it’s not spurs or their fans that are in dreamland. it’s the press fabricating and regurgitating stories.

It does beg the question of why Villa bought Downing and are being linked with Snieder and Van Der Vaart.

This is ridiculous! Harry would get a more positive response if he asked Martin O’Neil to fan him with a palm branch for 50p a match!

Young isn’t going to join Tottenham!

    For these reasons.

1.) He has came out and said that he is happy at the club.

2.) O’neill wounldn’t let him go, let alone for only £21m ( your having a laugh lol )

3.) He is an Arsenal fan so i dnt think he would fancy a move to Tottenham, plus it’s not exactly a move up is it!?!

I think most villa fans would agree the only teams that would sign him are top clubs i.e Man Utd, Barca, Real. Not clubs at the same level as the Villa are now!

Hooray!, how refreshing to read a site with a realistic view of things. All of the other sites have gone in agreement with the NOTW’s absolutely rubbish recycled article.
£21 million is a joke figure anyway!
Chuck in Bentley and Jenas and we might think about it. Not that we need either though, now we’ve got Downing and Delph in, who if I remember rightly, were both linked to Spurs too.

    Level playing field?
You have to be mad, player for player yes indeed but Spurs have shown nothing in the way of a galvanised team and if they are to start competing they are going to need to discover that first.
As for Young, the fee would be much higher than £21million, so yes he is worth it, but no, he is not and I very much doubt ever going to go to Spurs.
