The door is wide open for Arsenal to sign this £9 million midfielder

Following the sales of both Arjen Robben and Wesley Sneijder to Bayern Munich and Inter Milan respectively, you may have thought that Real Madrid have finished their summer sales, however their is still one man up for grabs.

Rafael Van Der Vaart remains firmly in the shop window with only four days left in this summer’s transfer window. The Dutch midfielder has been linked with a whole host of European clubs over the past few weeks, however as of now, nothing has materialised.

The player himself has admitted that he would love to move to a Premier League and personally, I think a move to Arsenal could be on the cards. Liverpool have been mentioned, however the fact that Rafa Benitez only has a few million pound to spend seems to rule out the possibility of a move to Anfield.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has today claimed that he may dip into the market before the window shuts next Tuesday. Van Der Vaart, 26, for me would be an ideal addition to the Gunners squad. He an experienced international, who is undoubtedly entering the prime years of his career. He can play anywhere in midfield and when I say play, I don’t mean just play ok in every position, I mean he can play exceptionally well in every position.

Many figures have been banded about in recent weeks, however £9 million is thought to be the figure that would secure Van Der Vaart’s services and after the sale of both Kolo Toure and Emmanuel Adebayor to Manchester City, Wenger certainly has that kind of money to spend. S0, what do you think? Should Arsenal make a move for Van Der Vaart or should they look elsewhere? Comments below please.

Definitely. Arsenal should be looking at the quality of the likes of Van Der Vaart, especially at that price, but I don’t think he will.

I think he will look at the players out injured and say he probably has enough, when all are fit, to be strong enough. Trouble is they are never all fit at the same time.

He’ll probably make a defensive signing. But it will only be if one goes(Senderos).

Yes Arsenal need this man in the midfield, another defender and a top striker. These will support arsenal run for title race as players needs to be rotated or rested, then talk of unforseen injuries.
Take for example,Vamaelem or Gallas is injured,do we have any credible player to replace him,i dont mean Djorou or sylvestre type of players.

Van der Vaart would be a great signing for both Arsenal or Liverpool. Benítez needs an offensive midfielder who can link Mascherano, Gerrard and Leiva with Torres and Kuyt – bet the Dutch guy would be great in that role.

Yep. Totally want this chap. Class. Good price and age. Fit perfect with Arsenal and will inspire Van Persie. Also, although we have pleanty of midfielders, he can score goals and even when in the midfield will allow guys like Arshavin and Walcott a chance to play up front maybe. Get him Wenger before twitchy face rednapp tries to copy us as usual and makes a bid!

The obvious question is whether we really need Van der Vart. For me, we have about 4 or 5 playmakers at Arsenal including Fabregas, Rosicky, Nasri, Arshavin and Diaby. Van der Vart is a playmaker and not a defensive midfielder. We need another defensive midfielder or central defender as substitute/replacement for Song and Gallas respectively. Who is going to replace Gallas if he gets injured? Is that Djorou or Sylvester? No way for quacks! And who is going to replace Song in January when he leaves for the African Cup of Nations? Nobody, quality wise. We lack quality in terms of replacement in these two departments. And surely, Van der Vart, though a quality player, is not the obvoius answer

Breaking News from Arsene on Van Der Vaart!!

“We are looking to add to the squad because i feel physically we could do with another addition if for ever reason you get injuries or tired legs throught the season. There are a few options we are looking at.”

Media: Is Van der Vaart a possible player you are looking to sign?

“There are many and you will be first to know if we sign anybody from anywhere.”

Yes! i love this guy. we should so get him, exciting stuff him being linked with arsenal in a BARGAIN deal too. him and fabregas in the centre of midfield would be SOLID! Plus he would give us more depth in the squad if a midfielder was to get injured, like fabregas now for instance.

What about him and van Persie not getting along? Toure and ade were both disruptive to team morale. Could this maybe not be such a good idea.

Yes most definitely Rafael Vander Vaart is a supremely good midfielder. The last couple of years he had some injuries and unhappy with his club that’s why there was very little about him. He is very very talented perhaps even better than Fabregas.

I still feel that Chamakh will come to Arsenal right at the last minute, Bordeaux can not afford to let him leave on a free next season so this deal is far from done. They (Bordeaux) would of sold him to west ham if but the player want’s to go to Arsenal so watch this space!!!!

its not him that cant get along with RvP, its that arrogant Sneijder, who still think that he is ever so important that he want to try forcing his way in staying at Rmadrid, even when they wanted to sell him. But eventually left for Inter.

i personally think that VdV is a good buy. with that age and skill. he will add dimensions to our attack, with that impressive long shots of his.

I would love to see Van Der Vaart at arsenal.
he would fit in well and play great and would actually help us a lot.

Yes it would be nice to see Van Der Vaart at Arsenal but somehow I can’t see it happening, Wenger seems adament that we have all the players he needs in midfield, but I don’t think Song or Denilson are capable to being great midfielders, we definitely need an established midfielder, so I think we’ll have to see, but somehow I don’t think so.

    August 29th, 2009 @ 11:44 AM

    I’m thinking we need him.
We have Nasri, Denilson, Song, Fabregas, Ramsey, Fabregas, Diaby and Rosicky.

Ramsay will only play around 15 matches if needed.

Nasri and Rosicky will play on the flanks so there is no danger of leaving either of them unhappy with his arrival.

I think it is mission critical to find someone who can replace Song when he goes to the African Nations Cup!

But seeing that we have a 3 man midfield now and Song is leaving for ANC we might possibly need some experience in midfield.

Oh I think VDV is an awesome midfielder! He SHOULD play for any of the top four in the Premier League.
