Wayne Rooney : “I have never intentionally dived.”

wayne rooney Good one Wayne.

After last week’s blatant dive against Arsenal, Wayne Rooney was at it again yesterday, this time in an England shirt. The Manchester United striker has come in for some criticism in recent days after he stated that he has never intentionally dived, however judging by yesterday, Mr. Rooney is a liar.

Following yesterday’s friendly international at Wembley, Rooney had this to say on the matter : “I have never intentionally tried to dive, there have been times when I have tried to stay on my feet and tried to get the shot off rather than going down. I have never intentionally dived. I think everyone who watches me play knows I am an honest player who tries to be as honest as they can.”

Even the most ardent Manchester United fan would have to admit Rooney is lying when he says he has never intentionally dived. It’s a sad fact of modern day football that the large majority of players dive when they see an opportunity arise. As we have seen in previous weeks, UEFA have begun to take a firm stance against diving by banning Arsenal’s Eduardo for two games for his dive against Celtic and personally, I am fascinated to see if two game bans will be handed out on a more consistent basis.

I remember Rooney diving to earn United the usual penalty at Old Traford when Arsenal ended thier 49 unbeaten run. He actually did a Klinnsmann to earn united the penalty in that match

I cant believe the utter twaddle coming out of shreks mouth, Rooney and his cheating sidekick Gerrard are 2 of the biggest cheating, whining girls in the modern game. They are both disgraceful!!

“where are the manu fans to dismiss this “nonsense”?”

Probably keeping their heads down and wishing he’d just STFU, much like I do as an Arsenal fan when lé prof goes on about other teams’ divers without doing something about Eboue.

Seems to me all teams have at least one person who is a bit light on their feet.

Rooney is one of the worst form of cheats in every respect of the game. I really believe he is taking the piss.
Another terrible fact to come out of the Eduardo dive debate is the amount of xenophobia that is out there. It’s johnny foreigner that brought this into the game. Steven Gerrard is another incredable cheat as is Joe Cole at Chelsea, but as they are English they are beyond reproach throughout this debate with commentators, players and even fans. Eduardo dived, thats for sure, but what he did is happening week in week out and to single him out is the equivilent of FIFA shooting a single bullet into a crowd. A 2 game ban is unfair for an offence that warrants a yellow card when punished during open play. The handling of this was amateur hour and the likes of Rooney are actually trying to point score off the back of it. There is actually a youtube video of Rooney dives, or maybe he didn’t see it…

Rooney never dives intentionally. In fact diving is so much in him that he is doing it naturally. He has accomplished the mental state whereby his sub-conscious will direct him to fall whenever a defender is nearby or when a goalkeeper is approaching.

I think what Rooney means is: he never got caught diving.

    Bit of a difference.
