Tottenham striker heading north this January?

Posted by on September 14, 2009 | 8 Comments

Tottenham striker Robbie Keane has today been linked with a January move to Scottish giants Celtic.

The Republic of Ireland international only rejoined Tottenham last February after spending an unsuccessful (to put it nicely) six months with Liverpool.

Keane, 29, has been previously been linked with a move to Parkhead, however the lack of funds at Celtic has prevented any move ever happening. Tony Mowbray is now preparing to offer Harry Redknapp half of the £14 million Spurs spent on re-signing  Keane last February.

To be honest, I would be surprised if Celtic got their hands on Keane for as little as the rumoured £7 million. It’s fair to say that Keane hasn’t really got off to a flyer since returning to White Hart Lane and I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Redknapp decides to to offload him in January.

I am keen to hear what you Spurs fans, and indeed Celtic fans have to say on this one. Please leave your comments below.

to tell you the truth i would love to see robbie play for celtic but i wouldnt hold my breath. im not saying he’ll never join the hoops but i doubt that he’ll be joining this year. he probably feels that he has a few good years left in the EPL and then maybe he’d spend his last year at celtic like roy keane did. look at michael owen he was linked to celtic when his career seemed doubtful now he’s with man utd. (not that he’s playing much). anyway good luck to spurs and c’mon the hoops in israel on thursday!

would welcome him with open arms… as long as its no more than the £7million that’s being quoted and he doesn’t try to rob us blind for wages…

a transfer like this could sting us for the future so Mowbray and lawwell better get it right… even though at the back of my mind I believe it’s just agent and tabloid nonsense

I would love to see robbie at celtic the only
way we could get him is if scott brown goes to spurs i would rather keep him than get robbie keane any day

won’t happen… as much as i’d love to see it. robbie keane gets linked with celtic about four times a season. the only way it will hapeen is if -as they suggest on the splbanter site- dermot desmond subsidises his wages like he did with roy keane but i cant see it.

Not a chance at £7 million.
No way will Levy countenance that sort of loss in 12 months.

I think it may be a possibility (fingers crossed) but as long as were not sacrificing our main talents such as Brown or McGeady I would welcome the move I reckon Keane would hopefully be open to 40k a week (again fingers crossed).

But maybe the funding or part of the funding could come from the sale of Skippy to Wigan Martinez was heavily linked with him before the transfer window slammed shut and to be honest I dont think Moberry likes him (I know I spelt his name wrong) and would get shot of him in January along with Fortune

please take him, harry redknapp is scared to drop him, it feels like we are playing with 10 men when hes on the pitch, on saturday kranjcar should have played not keane, keane in my opinion should be our 4th striker im sorry but thats the case i donet think he has a future at spurs, we have many better players than him and our system cannot accomopdate him. PLEASE DROP HIM OR SELL HIM

Nick,I aggree with you completly, absolutly.I do not know what Keane’s journey to Liverpool did to him,but he does not seem to be the same player. There is no place for him at WHL.His shooting is erratic and his passing is nothing
to write home about. At 29 he seems to be on the downward slope of his carreer.
