Amazing Arsenal comeback ensures English teams off to 100% start in Champions League

Arsenal’s amazing comeback away to Standard Leige has tonight ensured that the four English teams in the Champions League are off to a perfect start.

Chelsea and Manchester United both recorded 1-0 victories on Tuesday night against Porto and Besiktas respectively. Goals from Nicolas Anelka and Paul Scholes earned the points for Carlo Ancelotti and Sir Alex Ferguson’s men on what was, to be fair, quite a boring night in the Champions League.

Despite being 1/10 favourites at home to Debreccen, Rafa Benitez’ Liverpool just scraped a win. Dirk Kuyt’s first-half strike earned all three points for the Reds, however Liverpool fans would have probably expected the game to be a bit more comfortable.

The story of the night came in Belgium. Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal completed an amazing comeback against Standard Leige, coming from two goals behind to win. Two goals in the first five minutes put the hosts in front, however goals from Bendtner, Vermaelen and Eduardo ensured the travelling Gunners fans travelled home very happy indeed.

All in all, a cracking start Europe for all the English sides. Not very convincing from Chelsea and Liverpool, however they got the jobs done in front of their home fans. What do you think? Comments below please.

Thank God we managed to win after going down two goals in 4 minutes. The sad reality from this match is; it could have been worse if we had faced a tougher opposition.

Arsenal need to strenghtened in three key areas: namely Another 6.4ft tall CB, a combative tall defensive DM and an aggressive predatory tall central forward. With this present squad i’m afraid we will end this season trophyless and worse than last season. Arsenal greedy backward thinking board beware!
