Is Fernando Torres really worth £70 million?

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has today claimed that Fernando Torres is worth at least £70 million following the news that two Premier League clubs made bids for the Spanish striker last summer.
Since moving to Anfield back in 2007, Torres, 25, has become one of, if not, the best striker in the world. His goalscoring record since moving to the Premier League speaks for itself. 58 goals in 92 appearances.
Speaking earlier today, Benitez had this to say about his star striker : “How much is he worth? Well at least £70 million, you would say. I’m not saying he’s the best in the world because he is young and can get better, but of course he is one of the best, and he can still improve if he wants to.
“This year we had some agents acting for other English clubs who were coming to us asking about the price of Torres – with big, big figures – but we said that he’s not for sale.”
If Cristiano Ronaldo is worth £80 million, then I would agree with Benitez that Torres is worth at least £70 million. Without him, I feel Liverpool would struggle to make it into the top four every year, however with him in the side Liverpool are now serious title contenders. What do you think? How much is Fernando worth? Comments below please.

Torres is probably worth the same as Ronaldo as he’d score more goals but doesn’t have the midfield presence that Ronaldo has, but to Liverpool he’s priceless and without him we couldn’t finish in the top 6 never mind the top 4.

I believe Torres is worth more than Ronaldo. Ronaldo only scores against average to poor teams. Torres has scored great goals against Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal, Real Madrid, Inter Milan as well as the lesser sides. Not a single goal has he scored from a penalty. Great players are always ranked according to their performance on the great stage.

here mike thats because the league was no where near the standerd it is now so thats a bit of a stupid comment u bellend.. im a united fan and reckon torres is priceless, ronaldo was amazing but the 42 goals in a season was he peak and no winger will ever do that again. torres wins games on his own literly. so at leats 80million in my opinion..

Statistically, and as a footy fan/player I’d say Torres is worth 70-85 Million. If Ronaldo is 80 than Torres is the same or little more. As Torres is also a team player, and very loyal to his club, good poin there mate Torres scores great goal against the best teams, Ronaldo not so much. Without a doubt Torres is the best forward today and the upcoming years he will remain the best, his record in Liverpool is amazing.
Liverpool did win all 19 trophies without Torres, so I wouldn’t say that Torres is the best thing ever happened to Liverpool but one of the best. Torres will get us the trophies no doubt about that.

Torres is at least worth 100 Mio. because his goal scoring record does not include freekicks or penaltys…

In an era where there aren’t many world class strikers available, Torres is the best and he is easily worth as much as Ronaldo but would Liverpool’s cash strapped owners accept less to ease debts.

Tony. You must be a retard. Torres wipes the pitch with Rooney. Torres is one of the best footballers out there.
Torres has a market price of 55mil and Rooney only at 35. Price speaks for itself.
