Wayne Rooney wants to follow in Ryan Giggs’ footsteps

Posted by Cathal Breathnach on November 6, 2009 | 1 Comment

Wayne Rooney has today admitted he would love to remain a Manchester United player for the rest of his career.

The England striker, who became a father earlier this week, says he would love to follow Ryan Giggs’ example and remain at Old Trafford for many years to come.

The 24-year old had this to say : “I hope I can reach 800-odd appearances for United. The number of games Giggsy’s played is unbelieveable and if I can get anywhere near that I’d be delighted. I’ve always said that I’d like to end my career here and if I could emulate what Giggsy has done at this club then it would be an amazing achievement.”

Rooney has already made over 250 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring over 100 goals in the process. I think it’s fair to say to that United would struggle without Rooney in the side.

With Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez no longer at the club, Sir Alex Ferguson obviously knows that keeping Rooney at the club is vital for the club to progress. He is an outstanding talent who will no doubt only get better as the years go by.
