Liverpool & Manchester United ready to battle it out for £20 million striker?

It has been reported today that West Ham striker Carlton Cole is attracting interest from both Liverpool and Manchester United in the lead up to the opening of the January transfer window.

The England international has been one of the Hammers top performers this season and has already managed to bag himself six goals, not bad considering he is playing in a side who are languishing in the wrong half of the table.

Despite West Ham boss Gianfranco Zola insisting that the 26-year old is not for sale, today’s talk of a possible £20 million bid from either Rafa Benitez or Sir Alex Ferguson may just prove a little bit too tempting for the debt-ridden club.

With all due respect to West Ham, but I personally believe that to guarantee his seat on the plane to next year’s World Cup in South Africa, Cole may have to leave Upton Park. I understand he has already been called upon by Mr Capello in the past, however I feel it’s unlikely that the England boss will opt to pick Cole if the former Chelsea man is to be relegated this season.

Liverpool clearly need a new striker and for me, Cole would be a welcome addition at Anfield. He is big, powerful and has the potential to form a sensational partnership with Fernando Torres in the Liverpool attack. I am keen to hear what you have to say on this one. Comments below please.

    haha, i’m sure that if they could afford it Liverpool would rather pay the £20mil it’d take to give Rafa the boot than sign Carlton Cole!
