£18 million England striker on his way to Arsenal to solve injury crisis?

With only 25 days to go before the transfer window opens, the papers are full of it today.
The Sunday Mirror reports that Arsenal are planning a January bid for West Ham and England striker Carlton Cole.
Arsene Wenger admitted earlier this week that signing a new frontman is his number one priority when the window opens with Robin Van Persie currently sidelined through injury.
West Ham’s financial trouble has been well documented in recent monthsbut despite this, Hammers boss Gianfranco Zola has insisted he will not need to offload his most valuable players. Cole, 26, has been strongly linked with a move away from Upton Park in recent days, with Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez understood to be keen, however it now looks as though the Merseyside club will face competition from Arsenal.
The former Chelsea striker has spent over three years with West Ham scoring 28 goals in just over 100 appearances for the East London club. Despite what Zola has said, I firmly believe that if a bid of anywhere near the £18 million mark is made, West Ham will find it incredibly difficult to turn it down.
It’s an interesting one for West Ham, if they sell their star striker in January, they will receive a nice chunky cum of money, however they will also run the risk of relegation.
What do you think? Comments below please.

I think £15mill and Vela on loan til the rest of the season would be a good deal for all involved. Cole is just what we need and even when RVP & Bendtner are back our strike force would be the envy of Europe….RVP/Cole/Bendtner/Eduardo/Vela. Also if we loose Cesc in the summer i think Wenger should be looking at Jack Rodwell….English/6ft 2/talented!!! Just a thought…English players then at the club..Gibbs/Rodwell/Wilshere/Walcott/Cole all future senior players for their country and under Wenger they will become worldclass!!!!

cant comment on his quality as am quite myopic with my football but he is the type of player we should go for. Knows the premiership; no adjustment needed; obviously not played in champs league, and could hit the ground running for us.

too big and he is able too head the ball, also not injury prone so no good too wenger as he likes too hide behind this excuse most of all

What a joke! Carlton Cole to Arsenal? You’re having a laugh. Cole is not even good enough to play for West Ham (they just haven’t realized that yet), and there’s NO WAY he is ever going to play for Arsenal. And 18 mill.? Please! What’s next? Arsenal to pay Fulham 25 mill. for Clint Dempsey?

“Cole is just what we need and even when RVP & Bendtner are back our strike force would be the envy of Europe ”
Who exactly will envy you?
mediocre players in a mediocre club, managed by an overated manager.
I see that new trophy cabinet is still spanking!!

Why would we want another “injury prone” player, don’t we have enough of our own i.e. Rosicky, Eduardo and not forgetting Walcott who it seems can only manage one game per season, yet wants to go to the World Cup, and when he is playing he couldn’t hit the side of a barn let alone score a goal.

Roquentin
ref comments: it ok to judge players but u must be fair and realistic in your judge ment.carlton cole in my opinion after some video reviews and the game against arsenal, proved that he can play a high level of football. it took 3 of our defenders at times to close him down, only one of our defenders matched him for pace, clichy. and he has pase power and strength. under wenger he would bring out the best in him. so i like to c peoples opinions based on fair evaluation

This is pure speculation. Have you ever seen Wenger pay £18m for anyone, let alone Cole. While I’ve been impressed with his form over the last season or so, and I’m sure Weng has too, I very much doubt he’d pay anywhere near the £18m mark. Has no-one learnt anything over the last 10 or so years?!
