Premiership Shockers And World Cup Hopes

We are nearly half way through the season and who would have thought Birmingham would be challenging for the European places, England would have received an easy World Cup Draw and Liverpool would have already been knocked out of the Champions League?
Perhaps one of the biggest shocks, Paul Hart being sacked from Portsmouth. By January 2009, six Premiership clubs had changed managers so it is a credit to Premiership chairmen this season that in the same period they have been much calmer about losing streaks.
And talking about managers being sacked, we can’t but talk about Liverpool and their disastrous season. So far, they’ve been knocked out of two cups in particular the Champions League, and also made a very sluggish start to the Premiership season which means it is an uphill struggle to even qualify for Champions League football next season. That would be a financial disaster for the already cash strapped club and the only thing stopping them from sacking Rafa Benitez is the massive compensation payout which would have to follow.
It may seem a long way away, but there’s only 6 months to South Africa 2010. England have been dealt a hugely favourable draw by coming up against USA, Algeria and Slovenia. Not only that but if they are to face Spain or Brazil, the only two teams given a better chance of winning by the bookies, it will most likely not be until the semi final meaning England can have their best tournament in twenty years, and hopefully ever!
Of course every fan has their own views about what should happen at Liverpool and how England will get on at the World Cup.
