Is Karim Benzema the man to cure Manchester United’s problems?

Posted by Cathal Breathnach on December 20, 2009 | 12 Comments

There’s no doubt about it, Manchester United are in trouble.

Yesterday’s 3-0 defeat at the hands of Fulham was the fifth defeat the Premier League Champions have suffered already this season, which is already one more than the whole of last season.

Despite what Ryan Giggs says, the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo has certainly had a huge impact on United’s season thus far. They are lacking that killer instinct in the killer third. Their defensive problems have been well documented of late, however the addition of a new frontman this January is a must for me.

Karim Benzema is a name which just won’t go away. The Real Madrid striker was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford during the summer before he became a Galactico early in July. Sir Alex Ferguson has previously admitted that Benzema, 22, was a player whom he admired, however for whatever reasons nothing materialised last summer, with regards a move to United.

The Sunday Express has today reported that the French international is likely to be the subject of a £35 million when the window opens on January 1st. Things haven’t gone fully according to plan for Benzema at the Bernabeu and should a bid of £30 million plus be made by United, I would be surprised if Real turned it down.

I personally would love to see Benzema arrive in the Premier League because he is a player whom I rate very highly indeed. There is no doubting his ability and for me, United would be a far stronger outfit with him in their side. What do you think? Comments below please.

Its all dumb press rumours nothing more. He’s a great player but he rejected us for R. Madrid, thats where his heart is and thats where he’ll stay. I dont want and I doubt SAF wants a player who wants to play for someother club. We too great of a club to be a rebound team for players who dont cut it. Go for someone else, someone cheaper maybe Dzeko

Karim Benzema is a young player who has struggled under Real Madrids manager, Manuel Pellegreini. Their manager is not experienced enough and will not command the respect that SAF will command instantanously.

Benzema will certainly get more oppurtunities at United and that will help United and Benzema himself become a better player.

SAF will get the best out of him, unlike Real Madrid have done due to the big egos surrounding him.

Unless he is available at half price (max 20mil) there is no chance this is going to happen. Ferguson was not prepared to go over 25 in the summer so i seriously doubt he will go to 25 mill now that question marks lie over his ability to play with the big boys. If he cant make it with Madrid who have been substantially behind united in performance for many years now, there has to be questions over his ability to make it in the premier league. If is available, at 25 mil say, a loan move until the end of the season with an option to buy after that is the only sensible way we can ensure getting true value for the little money we have available. If united are interested and funds are available, we have to minimise the risk.

Uniteds forward line is becoming laughable, signing a player like Benzema is a must ! fergie keeps bleating on about having money to spend, well now is the time to do something about it.

Dzeko! Two good feet, can head the ball and has pace! He is cut out for the premier league. It’s unfortunate though, not many of the good forwards seem to have OT on their list. I mean we have as world class available forwards, Dzeko, Benzema, Suarez?, Aguero, Villa, Fabiano. I would rather we buy a creative influence on the center of midfield and give the youngsters a chance.

After last Suturday’s defeat, it is pretty clear to all MAn Uts faithful that there is need for a turnaround in the team. Knowing the OT team for what they are however, there is really no need for panic-buying as we have a crop of good players in the team. What we should all pray about is the queickest recovery for the entire injured players and we will be back at the sumit in no time.
Anyway, one or two buys would do in January.

benzema is not worth it. In my personal thought, david villa and david silva from Valencia are better options.

I desagree David Villa and Silva would be crushed in the Premier league….Benz is a far better fit..

Benzem he is rubbish why him when they could get Ryan Giggs united will sell him for £2 Million or wayne Roony for only £3 Million or buy one get one free I know everything about united and i think these will be good buys for them.
