Arsenal continue to be linked with a £9 million move for Carlton Cole

The transfer window has been open for nearly a week now and to be honest, I am surprised this is the first time this rumour has found it’s way into the papers this month.

Arsenal are understood to be preparing a £9 million move for West Ham striker Carlton Cole.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has already admitted on several occasions that he is in the market for a new frontman this January due to the current injury crisis in the Gunners’ striking department of late.

The England striker has been one of West Ham’s top performers this season and Hammers boss Gianfranco Zole is desperate to hold onto the 26-year old, however the East London club will find it hard to turn down a bid of £9 million considering the current financial trouble at Upton Park.

With all due respect to West Ham, I would quite like to see Cole make the switch to the Emirates this January. I personally feel if Cole were to sign for Arsenal in the coming weeks, his chances of starting in Fabio Capello’s starting eleven for the first World Cup game in South Africa this June.

So what do all you Arsenal and West Ham fans have to say on this one? Please leave your comments below.

C.Cole’s not going to Arsenal. Zola’s changed him to a quality player and he’s a first team regular for West Ham. He’s in the England team. You don’t need to play for the top five to get into the national team. IRONS!!!

Is it me? or am i just thinking what every Arsenal fan is thinking?? we’re not exactly jumping for joy if Cole signs are we??
I think we’re just be relieved that we have at least another option up front!!
Cole has been tremendous this season though and yes i think he will be a good signing but not a sensational one as Dzeko would prove to be.

Cole’s good but i’m with Hass above, as Darren will make a much better addition to our strike force.

To all Arsenal fans, I wouldn’t get too exited about this story because it aint happening as this story is just a load of crap. Why would Zola sell Cole to your lot of or anyone else for that matter? He wouldn’t nor would West Ham, because they don’t need to sell players as they are not in financial difficulty, not cash rich either, so doubt very much that they will do any business in this window, other than maybe one or two loan deals. Beside he would cost more than £9 mil or you could say more than Wenger would be prepared to pay. Does anybody out there with any intelligence really think that West Ham our going to sell their top striker who is going to be integral in keeping them up this term? Don’t you just love silly season? COYI.

Dzeko is the BIG GUN we need up front. He should be Ade’s replacement. Simple as that. Another CB for cover too. To replace Kolo. We need depth to compete in all 4 competitions plus injuries will always occur. Come on Arsene and Ivan, show our ambition!!

c.Cole is a decent player, his good in the air and can finish. I dont think he is the perfect fit as of now, maybe in the near future, but not now. As for Bendner, I think he should of been transfered long long time ago!!! lets get real true striker that want to play!!!! M.Chamakh!!!! were are you???

I dont understand this story at all. I like Cole, I think he would be a decent signing for us and I’d rather him than Chamakh as I think he gives us something a bit different – more of a target man that can hold the ball up whereas Cham is a converted winger that likes to run onto the ball like Theo, like Vela, not too disimilar to Rosicky. Also, Cham has already shown he is a money whore whereas I think if Cole had another chance at Champions League football he would grab it and we would have a very loyal player in return. I also wonder whether the delay to Wilshere’s loan deal has anything to do with this – West Ham want Jack, Jack wants West Ham and laoning him to them may ease the Cole move? The problem though is that we need a striker to cover injuries and Cole is injured! I wonder though if that is why nothing is happening, is AW waiting to see if Bendtner comes through to give him some breathing space, if not then maybe Cole is a no go and he goes for someone 100% fit today?
