Redknapp willing to let Keane leave Tottenham

That’s if he receives a bid of £50 million.
The transfer window has been open for over a week now and Robbie Keane’s name seems to be mentioned every day in the BBC gossip column and today is no different.
Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has warned off any potential bids for Robbie Keane, stating it will take a bid of at least £50 million if he is to even consider selling his captain.
Speaking in Saturday’s Sun newspaper, Redknapp had this to say : “Please God, he’ll still be here in February. I don’t see any way Robbie won’t be here unless someone comes up with £50 million or something for him.”
Keane, 29, has spent much of this season on the Spurs bench, with Redknapp opting to start Peter Crouch and Jermain Defoe ahead of the Republic of Ireland captain for the most part of the campaign. Since returning to White Hart Lane last January after an unsuccessful spell at Liverpool, Keane has scored 14 goals in just over 30 appearances.
Celtic and AstonVilla continue to be linked with a January move for Keane, however Redknapp’s comments today are likely to see the rumours decrease somewhat. I would personally like to see Keane leave Spurs during this transfer window because he is a player whom I rate very highly. There is no point having a player with so much ability sitting on the bench every weekend.
What do you think? Comments below please.

If Keane doesn’t go in January, he’ll be less saleable in 6 months time. Once great, he now looks to be past it….
Not that Crouch is looking all that spectacular recently….
I wonder if, when Lennon returns, Krancjar might not be a better partner for Defoe up front than Crouch or Keane. But we’re not likely to find out.

What Harry is saying is everyone’s got a price, and he still thinks Keane is worth a bit. But c’mon, Keane has shown to be a hypocrite through and through – if MANC would come in and suggest they want him, he would be the first to declare that MANC was also his boyhood club, despite all the previous nonsense about finding his ‘home’ in Tottenham and wanting to stay here for life. So I would think if Villa comes in with 8m, just get him off the roster. We could easily put Kranjcar in front, as Indyfan suggests. In fact I think Pav would do a great job, it’s just that Harry doesn’t even give him a chance to start.

I’d start Keane ahead of Crouch every time for work rate alone. Defoe to be fair has upped his work rate in the last 3 games but the pair of them were responsible for losing 2 points against Everton, when they did nothing for the last 25 minutes at Goodison. Keane tracks back. closes full backs, centre backs, links with midfield, joins up play, motivates the team and scores goals. Spurs need Keane. ‘Arry wants a goal-poacher in the box. Spurs are a season or 2 away from being a team who will supply to someone who just sits and waits in the box and does nothing else (Defoe). It fascinates me that Spurs fans forget what Keane has done at WHL over the last few years. He isn’t worth 50 mill and ‘Arry knows it but he couldn’t say anything less without effectively he doesn’t want him. But by mentioning any price tag at all, he is essentially saying he will sell him for the right price.

I think Keane is a fantastic player. He just needs the right players around him. When Modric was playing on the left at the begining of the season, I feel that he brought the best out of Keane. I also think that there’s a place for Crouchy, because different games requires different types of players. I also feel that Pav hasn’t been given a fair chance, looking at the players we have and the way that they are playing together, I reckon that he would come good with a run of 2-3 games, how can you judge a player on when he only plays a one off game here and there. COYS.
I don’t understand why we are only aiming for 4th, when you have the likes of Zola saying we have a good chance for the title, it’s about time we start aimimg our sights higher.

Unbelievable !!!
I’d sell Jenas, Bentley, Hutton, Defoe, Crouch and maybe even Huddlestone before I’d even consider selling Keane.

Spurssince80, are you Robbie wife or something? Selling Defoe before him?? What a joker. Keane is past it, get over it and move on.

Defoe scores goals no argument. He does nothing else. No tracking back, no closing of full backs, centre backs, no tackling, nothing but sit on the edge of the box and wait. Does he score more goals than Keane? Absolutely – no argument. Spurs are not Real Madrid – can’t afford to carry a striker who just wants everyone to deliver the ball on the edge of the box or in the box so that they can score. Keane grafts – he links up, he tracks back, he closes, he tackles, he pressurises, he motivates and he scores (especially from the penalty spot unlike your God Defoe). When Defoe starts to work like Keane does I will agree with you, then he should be kept ahead of Keane – but in my opinion from watching Spurs for 30 years, we are not anywhere near being able to carry a player for 90 mins yet – we need all 11 in a battle – and against Everton Defoe went missing for the last half an hour and it wasn’t the first time either. Put him in a battle and he doesn’t want to know.
