Three words to sum up Robinho’s time at Manchester City
Posted by Cathal Breathnach on January 28, 2010 | 20 Comments
I’m sure you have probably heard by now that Manchester City’s Robinho has today joined Santos on a six-month loan deal.
The Brazilian striker has struggled to nail down a first team place at Eastlands this season and recently admitted he would love to rejoin his hometown club Santos.
Robinho, 25, has got his wish and will now re-join the club with whom he made his name.
It is such a shame that things haven’t worked out better for Robinho at Eastlands. During his first season in England, he was excellent, scoring 14 Premier League goals in the process.
He has scored just once this season which, for a player of Robinho’s ability clearly isn’t great. We at Football Corner would like you to sum up Robinho’s time at Manchester City in three words. Whenever we do this feature we always seem to get a good response and I hope we get the same again.
Tell us your three words by leaving a comment below.
I’ll start us off with my three words : promised so much.

My three words are about the event of him leaving and not about Robi. Even if he struggled at the end for us. I liked Robi!

City’s not worthy
Fans underrated him
He deserves playtime
Unfortunate bad season
Doesn’t deserve this
Hated for nothing
In all seriousness, he deserves a better treatment. You point fingers at Arsenal for treating Adebayor, but look at what you do to Robinho.
A very talented player that had a bad start of the season, due to his own expectations, as well as his injury and lost confidence after that. Instead of supporting him and trying to get his morale up, you shat on him and considered him “useless”, because he’s not a defending player, like Bellamy. Robinho is a pure offending player. He attacks and that is what he does best. He makes runs with and without the ball, little passes and what not. He doesn’t come back to get the ball, that is not his style, just like Bellamy doesn’t cut the ball, or does through balls. You’d think supporters would understand a little bit of football, but it seems a lot of City fans don’t.

gone too soon
Justin, as a City fan I don’t like how you bash our club/fans at times in your post. But to be honest, you’re spot on. Although Robinho appears to be out of shape right now, I feel like the world, as well as a lot of City fans gave up on Robinho far too soon. And yes, youre right about Arsenal and Adebayor being a great similarity and it pains me to realize that. Best of luck to Robinho, my favorite player to watch in the world.

should’ve tried harder.
Robi started with a bang but faded to an also ran by the end of last season. His away form for the most part was shameful. what was he out doing all night on away matches? shagging his brains out? He looked absolutely spent come every away game day. This year I know he was hurt but for Heaven’s sake, his effort on the playing pitch at most times was beyond just lacking and it was a far cry formt he effort he gave Brazil in cup qualifying. So I have to assume that his training ground effort for City managers was also lacking. So he rightfully dropped to the bench. Being a coach/manager myself, I find talented players that do not put in a full effort on the training pitch will fail to impress on a consistant basis on the playing pitch and will eventually create discontent with the rest of the squad, who will resent them and thus I have concluded that if they can’t figure out that they could be fantastic if they would just put in an honest effort, they are not worht having on the team. If Robi’s form picks up and his training effort imporves, I say “scout him like you would any other, then bring him back if he is worth it”. If it doesn’t, he will be riding the Santos bench behind the hungry Brazilian youth’s which Santos already has in droves….

The guy has sulked and pouted his way out of every club, its an attitude thing.
Blessed with a world class talent but without the motivation to use it.
“Could have been great” is an epitath doubt if any european club would now gamble on him now.
Was blessed to see him preform at Gods club when it suited him last season, breathtaking on his day.

a great man.
used as scapegoat.
it seemed to me like the fans needed someone to blame when we werent playing to well and unfortunately thats what ultimatly lead to his departure. i agree with the comment which said that the same thing happened with adebayor at arsenal and it is a shame that these people who call themselves city fans are to blame for our best ever leaving us

Was a superstar!
I used to think Robinho was one of the best footballer’s on the planet. His step overs and slick passing made him one of the most sought after players in the world before he came to the best league in the world. Now, he is going back home to Brazil to play for Santos where he made his name. Last year he played so well adapting to the pace and style of the premier league scoring 14 goals in the league, but how things have changed. I think Robinho does better when he is one of or the only superstars on the team. He wanted to leave Real Madrid for the city of Manchester and thrived in his first season. Since the addition of major signings he was once again rescinded to nothing just like how he felt at the Bernabeau in Madrid. Now he is back home where he can once again become the superstar the world once knew him as. I think this move was good for both club and player. Manchester City are trying to lock down a champions league spot and Robinho needs regular first team football if he wants a chance at South Africa in 2010. All around a good move, but for Robinho he needs to turn was into is and mabye his life will turn the clocks and he can once again regain his cape as one of the best players in the world.
