Could Sunderland be joining Portsmouth in the Championship next season?

Before I get on to Sunderland, I think we can all agree that Portsmouth will not be playing Premier League football next season following tonight’s 2-1 defeat to Stoke.
Anyway, Sunderland.
Steve Bruce’s men fell to their 12th defeat of the season this afternoon at the hands of Arsenal. The North-East club are now just 3 points above the drop zone and I am sure the majority of Sunderland fans would not have envisaged that at the start of the season.
The last time Sunderland won a Premier League game was way back in November when they welcomed today’s opponents Arsenal to the Stadium of Light. That’s exactly three months ago since Sunderland tasted victory and if they don’t get their act together soon, they could find themselves in the Championship next season.
With just 12 games to go, Sunderland have some tricky fixtures between now and May with Manchester United, Liverpool, Manchester City, Aston Villa and Tottenham all still to come for the Black Cats.
The majority of bookmakers have Sunderland around 6/1 to be relegated this season and to be honest, I feel that’s actually a very generous price considering the way they are playing at the moment.
What do you think? Comments below please.

Don’t currently look good enough to beat any of the 5 teams above. The manager needs to kick some arse from now right to the end of the season if Black Cats are to avoid relegation

I don’t think they’ll get relegated but it’s encouraging to see them down there for Toon fans.
Bent will fire they back up the table don’t worry.

realy think its not looking good for us we need to SACK Bruce now he his just not good anoth for us and i realy think it was a mistake not to sell jones in janury hes goals per game record is crap.think we need a manager with a record that as kept clubs in the premiship i.e curbishly done it with Chalton and West ham.if Bruce dont get the boot can see uz going down and newcastle passing us on the way up.the only diffrence between us and pompy is Bent he as scored half of all are goals and if we go down he will be off

YEAH! Next season Bent can get 45 goals in the Championship – a true legend for Sunderland indeed! muahahahahahahaha!

Sunderland will stay up on the back of results against the teams below us. Wins over Bolton, Burnley and Hull plus points against Fulham and West Ham will keep the lads in the prem and give Bruce more time in the summer to reshape the squad. Calling for Bruce to get the sack is crazy, he has shown how the team can perform when everyone is fit and he needs to be given time. People calling for his head now would probably have seen Ferguson and Moyes sacked from there jobs and look what they are achieving. Keep the faith and FTM
