The end is near for Roberto Mancini’s time as Manchester City manager

Manchester City have failed to qualify for the Champions League after they were beaten 1-0 by Tottenham at the City of Manchester Stadium tonight.

Mark Hughes was sacked as Manchester City manager back in December because the club were sitting just outside the top 4 which simply wasn’t good enough for the men behind the scenes at Eastlands.

Roberto Mancini was appointed as the new City manager just hours after Hughes was given the boot. The club clearly felt Mancini was the man to take them into the Champions League but unfortunately for City fans, the Italian couldn’t do it and it’s Europa League football next season for the blue side of Manchester.

When asked whether or not he would be at the club next season, Mancini replied in a nervous laughter: “I think so.”

It was hardly the most convincing answer to a question I have heard from Roberto since he arrived at England and I for one believe he will not be around for much longer.

During his time at City, Mancini has been far too negative with a lot of his decisions. Before he arrived at the club, City had lost just two Premier League games. Following tonight’s defeat, they have now lost seven league games and that, I’m afraid, just isn’t good enough.

SkyBet make him 4/6 not to be at Eastlands next season and I really think that is, as Harry Redknapp would put it, triffic value.

Will Mancini be in charge at City next season? Feel free to leave your comments below please.

Too slow. Man City have already confirmed they’re keeping Mancini. Reported by the BBC and first received via 5live.

Alright guys, no need for strong words. My point is, Cathal, that the board have pulled the right strings so far and I believe them. Sure, there have been controversies, but personally I put both the Hughes sacking and the north stand debacle both spawned from listening to the fans. Khaldoon and several others have confirmed that they read Bluemoon daily, and if you read Bluemoon during either of those two, you should know that the forum was radically in favour of sacking Hughes, and that despite the vocal protest, most fans actually support the North Stand stuff – not least the club quote that they have a 90% approval rating from a survey of 10,000 over the North Stand revamp. I honestly think that they wouldn’t lie to us.

Must say that even though im a United fan, I believe Spurs prevented a major drift tonight that would happen next year not domestically but internationally in terms of City offering Champions league football to some of the best players in the world and ridiculous wages with their ”Unlimited Budget”,I believe Mancini has been only decent this year in my opinion although he got the best out of Tevez who was key for City this season and regretful to watch for Sir Alex this season

erm, Spurs and Arsenal lost 9 games each this season. United lost 7 and Chelsea lost 6. So only Ancelotti deserves to keep his job then?

Losing 9 was good enough for Arsenal and Spurs to clinch a Champions League spot so how was losing 7 not good enough for City?

I feel for someone working under someone elses squad ie Mancini working under Hughes’ squad I think he did a good job. City fan myself and want him to stay, be given the money Hughes was and see where we go from there. I think we will challenge for the title but be a little short next year.
