They’ve just signed David Villa, they’re close to signing Cesc Fabregas and now Barca want Fernando Torres

It was announced earlier today that Barcelona had agreed a £34 million fee with Valencia for striker David Villa to move to the Camp Nou. The Spanish striker will be officially unveiled as a Barcelona player at a press conference on Friday.
With Villa now all but signed, Barca will now focus their attentions towards the Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas. It was reported yesterday that Fabregas had informed Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger of his desire to leave the Emirates this summer and re-join the club where it all began for him.
This led to bookmakers slashing the odds on Fabregas to be a Barcelona player next season, with one bookie making him a 1/8 shot to move to the Catalan giants before the close of this summer’s transfer window. It would appear that the only thing which may prevent Fabregas from becoming a Barcelona player is the transfer fee.
Several papers have reported this morning that the Gunners will not accept anything less than £50 million for their club captain but at the moment Barca are only offering £30 million and Yaya Toure according to reports. Anyway, for what it’s worth, I would be shocked to see Fabregas still wearing the red and white of Arsenal next season.
You would think that Barca would be satisfied with signing both Villa and Fabregas. It would appear not. Liverpool striker Fernando Torres is also on their summer shopping list with one paper claiming that Barca will make an amazing £70 million bid for him in the coming weeks.
To be honest, I can’t see Barca bidding £70 million for Torres, considering the fact they are already spending upwards of £70 million to bring Villa and Fabregas to the Camp Nou, but I can definitely see them making some sort of bid. Maybe something like, £35 million and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. There is no doubt that Liverpool could do with some cash but with Torres being their best player, I can’t imagine they are too keen to let him go.
Could you imagine how unbelievably good Barca would be next season if Villa, Fabregas and Torres were in the team. They are already an exceptional team as it is but adding the likes of Villa, Fabregas and Torres could only make them better. As always, we want to hear what you have to say. i feel Villa and Fabregas are more than enough to strengthen the current Barca squad. Ibra can be given another chance this season and if he still fails there are the other 2 youngsters – pedro and Bojan available to replace him. So Torres is not very necessary for Barca as of now.

barca = man city. greedy cunts with no respect
May 19th, 2010 @ 1:39 PM
Aussie Gooner = Idiot with no respect.
May 19th, 2010 @ 1:48 PM
If we (LFC) would accept any swap deal that would bring Ibrahimovic to our club, we could also apply for playing in the Championship straight away.
May 19th, 2010 @ 1:51 PM
well, seeing as real madrid spent 250million plus on “world class players” and barca just brought in ibrahimovic who actually had quite a shocking season and wasnt much use, barca still come out on top and madrid win fuck all. with barca using academy players rather then what madrid are doing, think its safe to say you have no idea about football in general
May 19th, 2010 @ 2:05 PM
Who are you talking to Rushy?
May 19th, 2010 @ 2:07 PM
if i was benitez i and barca wanted torres i would be asking for players rather than money, for the reason that any money liverpool bring in will be pocketed straight away by the american owners. i would be asking for iniesta, bojan,+yayatoure for torres.
May 19th, 2010 @ 2:20 PM
What have barca to offer that we don’t already have here in. Liverpool, apart from 365 days of sun , trophys comining from everywhere , press that don’t build you up then knock you down, lower crime ( no shithouses breaking in your house when you playing ) , no why would mando want to leave the pool .
May 19th, 2010 @ 2:21 PM
if torres is half the man i thought he was
he wont leave after one poor season
ITS HIS job as much as the others to pull liverpool back to where they rightfully should be
if worse case happens then we CAN demand alot for him proberly more worth than ronaldo
May 19th, 2010 @ 2:23 PM
Now james woods who would be paying there wages.
May 19th, 2010 @ 2:24 PM
Why would barca need torres? They already have ibra, villa, pedro, bojan and messi who can play the role of the frontman.Torres is more direct kind of striker and depends on pace more than passing. Even though a great player he is I don’t see him succeding at camp nou. All in all a worthless rumour!
May 19th, 2010 @ 2:26 PM
Nothing less than Messi + Xavi for me
May 19th, 2010 @ 2:36 PM
sorry i was on about aussie gooner, obviously doesnt know what their talking about!
May 19th, 2010 @ 2:47 PM
Liverpool must do everything in there power to keep Torres. He is the best STRIKER in the world! If Liverpool where to sell they must recieve a bid in the region of 85-90 million! We are talking of a player who has excellent heading, shooting, dribilling skills apart from his terrifying speed. When torres is fit nobody, I mean nobody comes close. And even if he is to be sold GOD forbid who on earth are you going to buy?! I think we should rather concentrate on selling the crap Degen,Babbel,Kyri,Lucas,(Ngog I mean!) def no Torres he cannot even control the bloody ball. Now that would be interesting Ngog to Barcelona for lets say Xavi now that would be interesting!
May 19th, 2010 @ 2:50 PM
And Ibra is the most over rated crap player around. Mourinhio sold him ,and got Eto & snijder for less now thats business!!
May 19th, 2010 @ 3:12 PM
another case of of European teams being able to do what they want, Platini says nothing – if British teams behaved this way it would be an international scandal.
May 19th, 2010 @ 3:30 PM
I understand now Rushy
May 19th, 2010 @ 6:15 PM
iam not in support of fabregas living the emirate but should stay for one more season
May 19th, 2010 @ 7:33 PM
Get Your Fact right villa goin City you idot
May 19th, 2010 @ 8:03 PM
He has signed for Barca Greame. So you’re an idiot. Try and spell your name right aswell yeh?
May 19th, 2010 @ 10:45 PM
Good article Cathal.. but i dont think Barca needs Torres atm. for starters, 70m is a lot of money, secondly with Pedro and Bojan doing so well this season and Jeffren shinning in spells theres no point in buying Torres when we’ve already got Villa’s signature. Fabregas would be a brilliant signing but again, i dont think we need him right now.
I’d rather like to see a couple of good defenders comming our way. Puyol is a class act but does tend to give the ball away at crucial times and is getting old so we need to find a replacement.. Milito, i dont think he’s quite good to be honest. What about a proper left back? Maxwell is old and slow, maybe Clichy or Evra? Vidic as CB? lets see, but seriously we have a brilliant attack, lets concentrate on our back four!
May 19th, 2010 @ 11:03 PM
I’ll be very surprised if Torres stays. No CL football. Take as much as you can get and strengthen the team.
May 19th, 2010 @ 11:11 PM
I’m an Arsenal fan by the way and we’re about to lose our best player to Barca, even though we have more to offer him in terms of CL football that LFC have to offer Torres. We need to get as much as we can and use the funds to strengthen the team. Only problem is, we both have managers who are brilliant one minute and bonkers the next.
May 20th, 2010 @ 12:02 AM
i felt gutted when villa went to barca. All liverpool fans were dreaming of torres and villa to be reunited at liverpool. Oh well we have to accept the facts.Yanks gt out now!
May 20th, 2010 @ 12:23 AM
why would barca need a 5th world class striker? torres to barca seems like a joke. Plus with a 70 million pound price tag i cant see him moving. With the possible 70 million we could get milner for 20 million, juan mata 16 million, david silva 25 million, and with 19 million in excess and the possible sale of riera for 8m and benayoun-9m with 36 million pounds left over striker can vary from Higuin, Tevez, Luis Suarez, Dzeko, or even Sergio Aguero.
May 20th, 2010 @ 1:19 AM
Am a barca fan and i see no reason why we shuld move 4 torres.wit villa, messi, pedro and young bojan and adding super torres there will be confusion in the club as to who they will use.
May 20th, 2010 @ 2:33 AM
hahahah…funny article indeed! Yes Barca will also buy Lampard, Ribery, Robben, Robinho, Vidic, Rooney, Evra and Mascherano this year!
Torres is staying put, we have big Ibra. He and Villa can play together. Villa is an amazing buy for us and perfect Henry replacement who can play as a striker or anywhere up front for us.
Fabregas and Torres thank you very much, we don’t have a place for them…not with Xavi still strong in the middle. Even then I would rather see Jonathan or Thiago get promoted. We need a LB and a DM if Yaya leaves no mid-fielders pls!
May 20th, 2010 @ 2:38 AM
Creative mid-fielders that is…Iniesta, Xavi are perfect with Jonathan, Thiago, Keita or Busquets waiting for their turn.
May 20th, 2010 @ 6:17 AM
I can’t see how Torres would fit into the Barca 4-3-3. Sometimes they change to a 4-2-4 though..
But Barca’s election madness may well bring up the Torres-to-Barca campaign promise.
If Torres were to come to Barca, I think that definitely spells the end of Ibra.
Cesc, at Barca, may be paired at midfield with Xavi. Iniesta may be shifted up to LW. Its been done before. I dont think Cesc will ever be player as a DM though. Cesc coming would mean Keita and Busquets fighting for the DM, assuming Toure leaves this summer. Keita is a box-to-box DM and he differs very much from the way Busquets play. So Pep may use them interchangeably depending on the opposition.
If Torres comes, either he or Villa may be played at left wing or centre. Messi will go back to his original right wing.
It will be a mess though. At least two regular players will definitely be benched. Not to mention Pedro and Bojan..
Barca doesn’t need a LB as most people say. Maxwell has really filled in that position well in the absence of Abidal. I think what they need is a back-up defender in case Puyol or Pique get injured. Puyol is also aging, along with Milito and Marquez.
Those who say Barca will blow the opposition away should look at Madrid.. hmm well they did blow the opposition away towards the 2nd half of the season when they started to gel.. Imagine how they can be next season if they keep their coach and set of players..
May 20th, 2010 @ 6:29 AM
Aussie gooner… i stand with with u… fcuk this barca.. thinking that they will be best in coming season…they will simply end up as real.. no glory…. habbit of tapping players from united and arsenal… just shit barcelona…. ur decline will be very near…i am sure./… barca’s dominance will be restricted to la liga only.. in future..
May 20th, 2010 @ 10:09 AM
sljfhb, you are so clever, really. Are you Rafa in disguise, because if we made transfers like the ones you suggest, well, then we will have Insua as our only (!) left-back. That would make a balanced team. Would people please start to think farther than just from wall to wallpaper?
May 20th, 2010 @ 12:17 PM
why not, as a liverpool fan i think the club are letting players like torres down. he should go to barca, play beautiful football and win shit loadsa trophies. not going to win anything with us. and to those who say barca are like real – get REAL. Barca are an example to EVERYONE – that is how a football club should be run – GOOD LUCK TO THEM (fcuk Madrid)
