Are Liverpool preparing for life without Steven Gerrard?

There has been growing speculation this week that Steven Gerrard is on his way out of Liverpool this summer with several papers claiming the England midfielder has grown fed-up with life at Anfield.
The England midfielder has been strongly linked with moves to several of Europe’s biggest clubs in recent days including Inter Milan and Real Madrid.
With no Champions League football for Liverpool next season, many, including myself, believe it will be hard for Rafa Benitez to keep his captain at the club beyond this summer.
If I had to put my money on where Gerrard will be playing his football next season, I would have to say Real Madrid. With Jose Mourinho now virtually the new manager at the Bernabeu, I reckon the former Chelsea boss will be keen to make the 29-year old his first signing with Los Blancos.
So if Gerrard is to leave Liverpool this summer, there is no doubt that Benitez will need to go out and sign a new midfielder to try and fill the void. There is talk today that Gareth Barry, a player who nearly signed for Liverpool last summer before joining Manchester City, may be back on the club’s shopping list for this summer.
Barry, 29, had a fairly average first season at Eastlands but it is widely expected that Roberto Mancini will add to his midfield options this summer which raises question marks regarding the former Aston Villa man’s long-term future at the club.
With James Milner tipped to arrive at City later this summer, the world’s richest club may well listen to offers for Barry and with Rafa Benitez a known admirer, who knows, maybe Barry will be wearing the red of Liverpool next season.
We want to know what you have to say on this. Feel free to leave your comments below.

There is increasing speculation that Gerrard will leave, probably now for Real Madrid and link up with Mourinho, a move away from Anfield will obviously upset many Liverpool fans, but the fact it isn’t to another premier league club will be slightly more acceptable, I also see that James Milner has indicated he would like a move to Liverpool, who would probably be a better option than Barry. We have been here before with Gerrard but the difference being this is probably his last chance of a high profile move, and he, more than anybody, knows the situation at Liverpool isn’t going to be fixed in the few more years playing time he has remaining.

Here we go! More rubbish!
It is known that he desires an EPL winners medal before he retires so natyrally you have him going to a SPANISH club!! Barry will NOT be playing for LFC either next season or any thereafter. Had he wanted to he would have gone when the opportunity arose last season. Is that hard to understand?

In his recent interview with the general press, when asked if he’d still be at Anfield next season, Gerrard replied “What do you mean? Well I’ve got three years left so I will be, yes.”
This would seem to be more of an indicator that he will stay. Not a certainty perhaps, but I think he still wants to win the Prem with LFC and if he is happy with summer transfers then he will stay.

Blindside – I would hardly call it rubbish considering what Gerrard has had to say today. “After the World Cup you have three or four weeks of holiday to consider what the next best move will be for you.”
I’ll be honest, I would be very surprised if Gerrard is still a Liverpool player next season.

So sick am I of reading this type of rubbish season in season out that I am going to make an effort to do something about it.
So, Cathal, here is the deal: I bet you £50 that Steve Gerrard is still at LFC come the start of next season. You think he won’t be so it’s £50 on him leaving as far as you’re concerned.
Whoever wins, nominates their chosen charity for the £50 to be donated to (must be a registered charity and preferably one sports based given the nature of the bet).
So, do you take my bet or not? Time to put up or shut up my friend!

i am a liverpool fan and the thought of liverpools greatest ever player leaving scares me into next week. but as noted above we have been before and he chose the reds. gerrard will be at liverpool until the end off his carreer he has to be or we will struggle to get into the top ten. whatever happens i will still be rooting the reds on.
