Liverpool midfielder edging closer to £25 million exit

Posted by on June 17, 2010 | 8 Comments

Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano looks to edging ever closer to the Anfield exit door with his agent admitting this evening that the Argentine international has held talks with an Inter Milan representative regarding the possibility of a potential move.

Mascherano, 26, is believed to be interested in a move to the European Champions but it remains to be seen if Inter, now managed by Rafael Benitez of course, will cough up the £25 million Liverpool are apparently looking for.

Marco Piccioli, Mascherano’s agent, had this to say earlier today: “There has already been a first contact with (Inter) director Marco Branca. We’re evaluating the move hard and in the next few days we’ll have a new meeting to better establish the details of this transfer deal.”

Personally, I would be shocked to see Mascherano still wearing the red of Liverpool next season. I am a huge fan of his and I know some people won’t like me for saying this, but I believe he is too good for Liverpool.

Mascherano is no doubt one of the best midfielders in the world and it would come as a surprise to me if Inter are the only club looking to sign him this summer. We would like to know what you have to say on this one. Please leave your comments below.

thank god he’s going. Next lucas/ngog/babel/benayoun/riera/ kuyt.
These players all useless. Not fit for the famous shirt. need more flair players who can pass the ball and create good attacking football.

typical argentinian gypo coward cretin, hurry up and do one. just remember what club saved your dirty dying career.
hid behind your wife for months claiming she couldnt settle and you needed to move for her sake. interesting really that you forgot about her to negotiate a new contract at liverpool recently. angling for a move for months last summer, didnt turn up to any of our games for months because you were dreaming of barcelona.
tossers who run about a park throwing tackles about are 10 a penny. do one to be with your negative mate in your negative league mascherano. dirty little coward.

Mascherano is a good player but he is not that good.
I’d personally drive him to the airport for 25£.We’d rather have Ever Banega and Arda Turan for that amount of money, much young and skillful players.Lucas can does his job just about the same.

Mascherano will be missed unless we replace him, and to be honest, we dont know if that money will be used to pay off some of the debt!!

I fear for the future and the longer the Americans are in, the worse its going to be. Im surprised its taking this long for a buyer to come in, we need rid of the americans in order to increase our status and build for next season!

I personally will be so sad to see him leave. Whether his wife is happy or not, there are very few that can replace him in my opinion.

Whats more, unless we get all the money to reinvest, we are undoubtedly weakening the squad. Two £6m players will not suffice. The hole he leaves will be too big to fill.

The only way this sale will appease anyone, is if by some twisted logic, it enables the club to keep hold of Steven and Fernando.

Time will tell, but to me, this is a very dangerous precedent to be setting, and could be the start of a very damaging exodus.

what i can comment Mascherano is not happy with liverpool, then its good for him to look for another club, but iwant to remind him something when he was not wanted by west ham it was liverpool who rescue him, then my openion to return that respect he should stay just for this season that liverpool is facing calamities.

I really hope monster masch can settle down in Liverpool and sign a new contract. Only the lack of ambition for the current owners is making the star players want to leave. Mascherano obviously has had a couple of extra problems with family here but he is a vital part of the team. He only has 2 years left, so if he is to leave it may as well be now so we can get more money for him. £25million isn’t enough though. I don’t think it is right to be selling players under the current ownership though. Any money from the sales of players will just go into the american’s back pocket’s. Lets hope there is better news regarding Liverpool closer to the start of the season. I’m not believing any talk while the world cup is still on. No players who are still playing in the tournament will be discussing their club career while they are playing the most important competition of their lives.
