World Cup Day 13 – England set to tackle the Germans once again

After the weeks of worrying and rumours of divisions in the camp, England have finally made it through to the last 16, finishing runners-up to the USA. Finishing in second may prove to be of huge significance to Fabio Capello’s men as they must now take on the dreaded Germans.
Group C went right down to the wire and it was only due to a late, late goal from LA Galaxy Star Landon Donovan that saw the U.S. through and England into second place, setting up a mouth-watering clash with the Germans.
Group D also when down to the wire with Germany easing past Ghana in a reasonably entertaining game. A stunning strike from Mesut Ozil in the second half was enough to see of the Ghanaians, who despite losing, also progressed and will be the only African country in the last 16, so are bound to gain much of the support. They now face the U.S. in the next round and if they can win that, who knows?
The Germans really are a joy to watch. The average age of the team that took to the field against Ghana was just 24.5 and you could certainly tell. Players like Ozil, Phillip Lahm and Thomas Muller are a joy to watch and they play without fear. The grand old cliché ‘never write off the Germans’ may certainly have to come into effect here. Should they manage to overcome England, I’m sure their current price of 9/1 may certainly fall too.
Sunday is certainly the big one now that the World Cup has reached the business end. The Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein will be the venue for what could certainly turn out to be another classic between England and Germany.
Conclusions:
1. England certainly don’t look like a team capable of winning the World Cup.
2. The USA have a ‘never say die’ attitude.
3. The Germans always win.
