Will Arsenal splash £12 million on Liverpool midfielder?

Posted by on June 25, 2010 | 33 Comments

There are rumours today regarding the future of Liverpool midfielder Ryan Babel.

It has been suggested that Arsenal are preparing to make a £12 million bid for the Dutch winger who has struggled to make an impact at Anfield since arriving on Merseyside back in 2007.

Arsene Wenger is ready to splash the cash this summer in a bid to turn his Arsenal side into title challengers for the forthcoming Premier League season but would it make sense for the Frenchman to spend quite a bit of dosh on Babel?

There is no denying that Babel is an incredibly gifted footballer but whether or not he can perform at the highest level on a consistent basis is the big question. The 23-year old failed to nail down a first team place under Rafa Benitez at Anfield since joining the club but would next season be any different for Babel now that the Spaniard has left the club?

So, what do you think? Will Arsenal splash £12 million on Ryan Babel or should they spend their money elsewhere? Leave your comments below please.

he worth more than that. This chapppie is gifted beyond all. But it takes spiritual eyes to see this. We need him nothing more. I give credence to this you chap. Winger Shine your eyes.

good player with a lot of potential but not worth 12 mil. 8-9 would be fair & i’m sure wenger would talk the initial price down.

When a player’s first touch is bad, that player cannot be called ‘gifted’. If this deal is confirmed, I would personally drive Babel to the Emirates Stadium.

As a Liverpool fan I hope this is true.
I just hope the money goes back into the transfer kitty.
    Babel is way over rated.

Like shedtzy said. Many similarities with Thierry Henry in 1999. A good player @ the wrong club.
Babel’s made for Arsenal. (@ 12m a bit pricey) 7m would be a decent price..

DONT need him we need a goalkeeper and central midfielder to play in fromt of the back four Wenders biggest mistake was to sell Gilberto he has mad one to many mistakes for my liking And if he does not sign a goalkeeper the board should sack him

Ryan Babel was supposed to be an Arsenal player in the first place so it will be nice to have him. He is quick and moves fast, which will be very useful in our attack movements. So bring him home..
