Arsenal prepare smart £16 million bid for Premier League midfielder?

Posted by on June 29, 2010 | 21 Comments

You may remember hearing a few days back that Manchester City are apparently looking to sell midfielder Nigel de Jong this summer (why they would want to get rid of him, I have no idea).

Anyway, Caught Offside, a site I have found myself reading a lot of late, seem to think that Arsenal may be about to make a move for the Holland midfielder.

De Jong, 25, is in my opinion, one of the best central midfield players in the Premier League and to say I was surprised when I read that City may be about offload him would be a huge under statement.

De Jong is a player who always gives 110% when he steps out on a football field and personally, I reckon he would be a terrific signing for Arsenal. With Yaya Toure now virtually a Manchester City player, I believe the world’s richest club may well decide to sell De Jong considering the vast number of central midfield players already on the books at Eastlands.

It is thought that City will only be willing to let De Jong leave the club should they receive an offer of around the £16 million they paid for him when they bought him from German outfit Hamburg back in 2009.

It will be fascinating to see how this one materialises over the coming weeks. As always, we want to know what you think. Feel free to leave your comments below.

Never in a million years. He was voted number two in the fans poll and is going nowhere.

We will have Yaya, De Jong and Silva for the big games and Barry Viera and Bellamy for the smaller ones.

city have four competitions next season and de jong played in virtually every game under mancini last so to be honest i see this as a non starter. shows you how far city have come though. arsenal after city players. 3rd favourites for title ahead of both arsenal liverpool and tottenham.

Ireland may go this summer but that’s it from the middle. An outside chance of Barry going. No chance of De Jong going.

Arsenal don’t have that sort of cash.

Besides, de Jong doesn’t strike me as the sort of player who’d take such a sideways step.

Haha pftt give me a break you city supportes. De Jong would jump ship if Arsenal come knocking. Why would he want to stay at City who are way behind the mighty gunners and not even in the champions league?

    What a load of tripe!

One unsubstantiated report in a daily rag that has issues with City and all of a sudden, people like you are fanning the flames suggesting it is on the cards.

    Pathetic.

Not a cat in hell’s chance

Why would they pay £16m for him and sell after a superb season for less or the same. Surly if they wanted to sell him they would transfer list him and be asking for around the £20m mark at least. I don’t think Arsenal could afford him at that price but there are many other clubs in Europe who could and would surly jump at the chance. These are not two like for like players either, Yaya Toure is more of a box to box player while De Jong is solely a defensive midfielder (as good as any). I think this story is a million miles from right it would make no sense at any level.

Keep on reading that trash you dreamer, NDJ cost us £18 Million and is probably worth twice as much now as he’s become one of the best DM’s in Europe. An ever-present in our team and a fans favourite, why the hell would we want to sell him for a profit, never mind at a loss.

NO ARSENAL. Dont buy him yet… after a season on bench, he will go for £8million. that would be ideal.
i wonder how they will play all the players they are linked with or already have…

man shitty to win PL?? Stop dreaming.

Gooner4life…Arse hole are goners not gunners

Firstly de Jong is a City player and will remain one and why would he even consider joining an iferior set up at Arse hole. Just to remind you how you did last season against the super blues….two defeats and a flukey draw, Tick tock the time is up for the sky4.
