One player Arsenal need to sign if they are to win the Premier League title this season

Posted by Cathal Breathnach on July 25, 2010 | 36 Comments

Dozens of players have been linked with a move to Arsenal in recent weeks but we want to know who you think Arsene Wenger needs to sign if they are to win the Premier League title this season.

Mark Schwarzer, Phil Jagielka, Mesut Ozil, Gary Cahill and many others have been linked with a move to the Emirates but who do you think Arsenal need to sign?

I personally believe Arsenal are in desperate need of a new goalkeeper and if they are to win the title this season, Wenger should definitely go out and buy a new number one. Joe Hart would have been a magnificent signing but he looks to be staying at Manchester City so it would appear unlikely that Hart will be wearing an Arsenal shirt this season.

If Joe Hart isnt available why not go for Given. They both cant be no.1 and neither will want to be on the bench.

I agree, rumors are that we are going for given because taylor and hart have both signed long term deals with man city therefore Given will be needing a new home. I think he is amazing. I would take him over all the old guys we have been linked with. If not him then Steklenberg. Arsenal Til I DIE

if we sign Jagielka, it means we have signed A defender, a defensive midfielder and a keeper (remember when Neil Warnock never had any substitute keeper for paddy kenny coz he had mr. reliable who he could count on in goal) ;)

I propose that Arsenal fans World wide post letters once a week for the next four weeks to UEFA & FIFA complaining about Barcelona FC’s ‘tapping up’ of Cesc Fabregas. Also post a letter just once to Arsenal FC requesting that they formally complain to UEFA & FIFA. I have drawn up 3 template letters that I will email to willing participants. All you need to do is type in your own Name & Address before printing off & posting. Momentum will be boosted by you forwarding the email to every one of your Arsenal FC fan family & friends, encouraging them to participate.
The aim of repetitive letters is to create an Admin headache for UEFA & FIFA with thousands of letters received from all over the world & display the strength of feeling from Arsenal FC fans. The purpose of the single letter to Arsenal FC is again to display the strength of feeling from us fans.
My email address for this campaign from where I will email you the letter templates is …….. ArsenalFansHateBarcelonaFC@gmail.com

I, personaly and so do many fans ,believe that Arsene’s reluctance to pay for a quality goalie is the main reason why the gunners have stagnated these last five season. Friedel,Given, etc were available but he trusted alumunia. Had Arsenal had a good goalie, with due respect to alumunia,Arsenal could have won the cl in 2006.
I am afraid if he still trusts the current goalkeepers Arsenal are heading for trouble.

I would love to see a handful of tough players at Arsenal that are tall and strong, who are great at reading the game definately. We already have the attacking capabilities to compete with man utd and chelski in my opinion…especially with chamakh looking like a good player who fits in well. RvP, Fabregas, Nasri, Wilshire, Walcott, Arshavin are brilliant attacking players no doubt! All we need now is the defensive part to our game. Now with gallas gone, i am just gonna add a few good possible suggestions of mine…of course, i am just wishing though lol. CB Mertesacker would be a dream signing, or some one like Fellaini, that afro haired everton player looks great, maybe someone like the DM player Gokhan Inler looks very strong. As for a goalie, i think you can’t go wrong with a german keeper, someone like Adler would be a dream.

I personally believe we still lack strength in central midfield since Diaby has his on and off days, Denilson can Perform well but is often injured and Ramsey is currently injured, which leaves us with just Fabregas (who obviously wants to leave which could hinder Arsenals overall performance) and song who I believe to be a very solid all rounnded central midfielder.

Players in the central area who I feel are realistic signings that could definately be a huge factor in helping Arsenal win the league next season consist of Marek Hamsik, a very tall and dictating player who is not afraid of sticking the ball in the back of the net. Stephen Ireland a very skillful and hardworking player that can really create a lot of chances. Alexis Sanchez who can also play on the wing and up front very well is a quick, clever, versatile and youthful player who often frightens his opponents. Last but not least Arda Turan, a very much so attacking player with excellent vision and balance whom I feel can fit into Arsenal’s style of play very well.

If ARSENAL TO WIN THIS SEASON THEY NEED TO SIGN PHILIP MELO WHO I THINK CAN FILL THE VOID LEFT BY VIEIRA AND CAN COVER SONG AND GK EITHER AKINFEEV OR DUTCH WC GK OTHERWISE AGAIN 3RD THIS SEASON.

Akinfeev looks good.. Steklenberg wudn be a bad option either..

In centre of defence we need a player.. How abt per merterserker?? He wud solve the height issues.. He was solid in the wc.. He kept villa at bay for the whole match..I think he would make a good 1st choice partner fr verm..

We don’t really need ozil.. What we need are good wide players..if cesc leaves doesn leave this season he will in the next.. Its inevitable.. Nasri looks well equiped to take over wth wilshere an interesting option as well..let’s not forget ramsey.. Although I feel ramsey would be better suited fr the diaby/denilson role..ozil is interesting tho..an he cud develop into an awesome player under AW..

If Arsenal fail to sign a world class goalkeeper + a first choice defender before the close of this window, then I’m convinced Arsenal will win NOTHING.

    -Stekelenberg or Akinfeev (GK)
    -Mertesacker

These 2 signings will boost Arsenal defensively and will cost less than 25m (max)

get given he can help the younger keepers progress sooner an have an outstanding number 1 keeper.sell fabz he dont wanner be a gooner so let him rot on the barca bench then buy in hazard as the new fabz.i would like 2 c van der weil/and lukaku we will have plenty ov dosh left over 4 wenger 2 play with the way he likes witch is 2 save but unlikly 2 happen.

    July 26th, 2010 @ 2:27 pm

Frey, Lloris, Akinfeev or Stekelenburg (as much as i like almunia.. we need one of these four.

Mertesacker, Subotic or Jagielka in Central Defence.

Imo.. Melo wouldn’t be good, to much controversy him insulting fans etc..

I would like if we really had to sign a CDM, inler or veloso.

And as a more attacking player, i think we are comfortable without but id love to see Gourcuff.. i dont think hes needed though.

We should buy Per Mertesacker, We need 4 at the back and at the moment we have 3, we also need a goal keeper and fast. I think the Ajax man will be great.

  31. Wombledin
    July 26th, 2010 @ 9:22 pm

Besides the obvious need for a top goalkeep, we need a mature, proven, quality defensive midfielder to partner Cesc. A real hard man in midfield. Denilson is too soft, Ramsay’s too young and rehabilitating, and if Song is injured or gets jaded we are in big trouble defensively in midfield. If Wenger doesn’t sign a top quality DM all we will get is 4th spot yet again and more hidings by Man U and Chelsea. Yet Wenger says we don’t need any more midfielders. Absolutely bizarre.

Stekelenburg who be a massive signing and if they could also lock up Mertesacker they would have an awesome shot at the title!

    July 26th, 2010 @ 11:58 pm

We don’t ‘need’ a striker and we don’t ‘need’ Ozil. We don’t ‘need’ a goalkeeper. Nobody but Sagna and Vermaelen played 30 games or more last season and we just need to keep the squad fit(easier said than done I know). We’ve signed Chamach to let Eduardo go, we’ve signed Kosciency to let Gallas go. Djorou will replace Silvestre as back up and I think Campbell will re-sign if we don’t sign any other centre back. Done.

AW should learn not to be mean with the players’ salary increase other wise most of the best players are going to leave our club to say the likes of cesc, wiliam .etc but too good in sporting best players for other clubs and for him he doesnt buy any but just sell players off minus replacing any of them to get profit for the staff and himself which has made the club so difficult to obtain any trophy at all .

fab is a great player but cant win the league alone, if we can get $55million from barca then why not we can take given/stekenelburg/akinfeev, then per mertersaker/phil/gary then ozil and nasri would do magic in playmaker role and with van persie and chammakh all is top form we can challenge any big team. so let fab go cause that is what he wishes and seems he doesn’t feel or show the same honour and respect for the arsenal shirt and that to me is UNACCEPTABLE.
that is what i call good business translated to trophies
