Liverpool ready to make £8 million move for England midfielder

Posted by on August 1, 2010 | 31 Comments

If you believe what you read in the papers, Liverpool are ready to make an £8 million bid for West Ham midfielder Scott Parker, who has been heavily linked with a move away from Upton Park in recent days.

West Ham boss Avram Grant is understandably keen to keep hold of one of his most prized assets and was quoted as saying on Saturday that Parker will not be leaving the club.

Roy Hodgson is keen to bring a new midfielder to Anfield in the coming weeks with Javier Mascherano expected to join Italian giants Inter Milan.

Parker, 29, has remained quiet ever since Tottenham declared an interest in him but with Liverpool now in the running, it will be intriguing to see what happens next.

If I was a betting man, which I am, I actually think Parker will join Liverpool before the transfer window shuts at the end of August. I am a huge fan of Parker’s and I, like many others, believe he was never given a fair chance during his time with Chelsea.

What makes you think an £8m bid will make us change our minds, when we have already turned down a £7m bid from Spuds? You don’t have enough money to buy Parker, and we wouldn’t sell him anyway.

If he put in a transfer request, then it would still take over £15m to buy him.

Ads: We don’t bloody want him.

    Oh, and £15m? Hahahahahahaha.

£15mill for a 29 year old who cant even get into the squad of a very poor england team? Alright sure, that sound like a great deal.

completely agree ads. concorde why laugh at a completely reasonalbe price tag. our prize asset who should have made the england squad is well worth every penny of that. you don’t want him? no worse than mascherano my friend…

Well over 15m huh? If it is 10m then it is still can be considered worth it. But over 15m? Hahaha

Well, Mr Sullivan has recently stated to the fans that Parker is not available at any price. He would be a bare faced liar if he then went ahead and sold him, at any price.

Liverpool can do better for not much more cash and West Ham need him at the moment. I don’t see this going ahead at all.

parker is not good enough, past his best.. worth 5mil at best. squad player but nothing more.

£15 Mil, where did you pluck that figure from? the land of make believe? I hope this is just tabloid speculation. We need players who can improve the squad and Parker does not represent an improvement. We don’t have much noney to spend as it is and using 8 million of it for parker would be very wasteful. Can’t see it happening though, think Roy is a bit more ambitious than that and will not make the mistake of bringing in someone with Parkers limited ability.

Why is everyone talking about £15 million. It is suggested it is an £8 million bid.

not worth 8m, but macherano worth 30m.

ok, think i understand your logic. macherano is breakup up player, never pretty, but brutal and effective. parker is a complete midfielder, inspirational, tough tackler, and very effective in the last third, not to mention english. but the argie id worth 4 times what parker is worth.?

if he aint worth it, dont bid, but dont tell me hes not worth a quarter of your cheating argie.

    parker is different class.

Defour would be a better signing and he’d probably end up being cheaper than Parker who, to be fair to him, isn’t an ideal age and isn’t a stellar player.

Same old nonsense though. Take a £5 million player and slap a £15-20 million price tag on him because he’s English.

    Pff.

15 million MY FOOT ! He’s not worth the money. Looking at it, I think he’s worth 6.5 million. He can’t even qualify for THREE LIONS, what would become of him in Liverpool? Even young Lucas is better than him. And plus, he’s past his peak.

parker is a very good passing no better than stevie/alberto,but better than lucas/mash.parker can shoot no better than stevie/alberto,but a bit better than lucas/mash as for tacklin parker maybe stevie but lucas/mash.well better and liverpool have players with pace parker never had pace

Past his peak? I assume you clueless Kopites havent actually watched Parker the past couple of seasons then. Gerrard looked FAR more past his peak than Parker last season.

Since Zola released Parker’s attacking attributes that he showed at Charlton he’s progressed to bcome one of the best box to box midfielders in the Premiership the past year and a half. He’s not a replacement for Mascherano because he’s not a defensive midfielder – and that’s why I dont believe Hodgson will be moving for him.

He could play the Lucas role 10x better than the latter but I doubt that’s a priority with limited funds.

As for asking price …dont you fools get it. It’s not that Parker is a 15m player, it’s that he’s UNAVAILABLE FOR TRANSFER. Which means … duh duh duh … you’ll have to pay way over the odds to prize him away from West Ham.

And if Milner will be going for 20m+ …and Lescott moved for 20m+ plus, some might say 15m is a bargain for Parker.

I think Spurs had an £8million bid turned down so I expect it would take at least £12million for West Ham to cosider selling him and he may have to ask ca he leave but I would love to see Parker playing for Liverpool.

Personally i think hed go to Spurs than to Liverpool and i rather see that happen than pay over the odds for Parker, dnt get me wrong hes decent quality but nothing special defour would be a better choice.

Ads what planet are you on 15 million for Parker are you having a laugh if he was that good hed be in the England team, this is why managers buy foreigners coz of decent english players prices get hiked up so much that they have no other choice to buy a better cheaper foreigner, and exactly why We english dont produce that many young good players no more

He has had a very good season for us, Liverpool won’t pay 15m but we won’t accept 8m either, what can you get for 8m nowadays? I rate him, he is a solid pro but I think if a club comes in with a 10m bid, we would have to start thinking about that.

Why do Liverpool fans think he is not good enough for their average team. What competitions are you in this season? Your living in the past and you know it! Parker is a cockney too far for your crumbling ambitions.

Lets say it again he is not for sale and anyway you’d try to nick him if he were.

Other people have picked up on the fact that he probably isn’t worth 15m, I’m saying that is how much you would need to bid to even get us to consider an offer.

“he wasn’t even good enough to get in the england squad”

what? an england squad that failed miserably and your “star player” didn’t exactly inspired himself did he.

for a player who played out of his skin and basically inspired the rest of his team mates to beat the drop, yeah he’s really poor isn’t he.

better than lucas and that donkey you call aquilani!

he’s not for sale anyway, so you don’t worry yourselves any more…

I think that Parker would be very well suited to Roy Hodgson’s Liverpool side. Since his time at Chelsea Parker has grown as a player and matured into his role and is, in my opinion, of the most under-rated players in the Premiership. He may be 29 but he is playing his best football now and can still maintain that for a few years. He was also unlucky (or perhaps lucky depending how you look at it) to miss out on the World Cup squad. He would fit in perfectly behind Gerrard in a holding position. With the new squad rules, the added home-grown factor will probably inflate Parker’s price tag further but I think he would be a wise purchase if Liverpool can prise him away from West Ham.

liverpool have no money with or without the sale of the very average argie they are living in dream land if they think they can even finish in the top four this year. why would anyone with ambition move there

    J.Cole Gerrard Parker Maxi
    Kuyt Torres
Subs:Cavalieri,Skrtel,Aurelio,Lucas,Aquilani,Babel,Jovanovic,Ngog.Should Insua goes of course. If Insua stays,we want 30 million for Javier.
