Liverpool finally agree deal with Barcelona for £18 million midfielder

After weeks and weeks of speculation regarding Javier Mascherano’s future, it would seem that Liverpool have finally agreed a deal to sell the midfielder to Spanish giants Barcelona.
The Argentine has been strongly linked with a move away from Anfield ever since he admitted that he would be interested in a summer move away from Merseyside.
Inter Milan were the early favourites to sign Mascherano. However, it was reported earlier this week that Barca were in negotiations to sign the 26-year old and after a number of days of increased speculation, it has been confirmed this morning that the two clubs have come to an agreement.
The fee is understood to be around the £18 million mark and Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson will no doubt be keen to add another midfielder to his squad before the transfer window shuts next Tuesday.
A lot has been said about Mascherano in recent days and weeks but no matter what you think of the guy, you can’t deny he is a quality player. It will be interesting to see if he gets much of a game at the Camp Nou considering the fact Pep Guardiola already has a number of world class midfielders to chose from.

I think the price was nearer £22 million.
According to the Spanish press at least.
Some even quoted the price as £24.5.

Red – the reputable Guillem Balague has stated it’s 16m Euros with a further 6 depending on clauses.

Which is about £18 million.
Are Liverpool getting a good deal out of this?

that’s just about what we paid for him when he was languishing in west ham’s reserves! liverpool turned him into a household name, coveted by the cream of europe, and he has become his national captain and regarded as the best player in the world in his position, I am extremely disappointed with the club for caving-in as they have and roy may have lost the respect of a lot of fans for not standing his ground.
i mean, c’mon, barca sold an older, inferior player to city for more money! liverpool are in danger of becoming a laughing stock, if we aren’t already!

Mascherano is a dirty player made his name by consistant fouling in th pl anybody will tell you that apart from liverpool fans, their views may change over the coming weeks we’ll wait and see!! I honestly cant see why barcelona are wasting so much money on a player when their current midfield is the probably the best if not the best midfield in the world.

I’ve seen numerous sources this morning quoting £18 million plus add-ons!
Who knows what it’ll be, eh!? What matters is whether Roy will get it back to spend!
