After just over 9 years unbeaten in home league games, Jose Mourinho has this evening finally tasted defeat as Real Madrid were beaten 1-0 by Sporting Gijon at the Bernabeu.
A 79th minute strike from Sporting’s Miguel de las Cuevas was enough to all but end Real’s title hopes and sadly, end Mourinho’s unbeaten home record.
Real huffed and puffed in the closing few minutes, but they simply couldn’t manage to beat the impressive Juan Pablo in the Sporting net.
Going into the game, Real had won every single home game they played in La Liga this season.
Mourinho’s 9-year unbeaten in home league games saw him manage Porto, Chelsea, Internazionale and of course Real Madrid.
It is quite funny to think that of all the teams he faced during the incredible record, including the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and AC Milan, it is Sporting Gijon who ended it.
End of a superb record, but you know what they say, nothing ever lasts forever. On that note, I’ll leave it there. Comments are very welcome.
