In the 74th minute of Sunday’s encounter between Manchester United and Arsenal it was clear to see that Robin Van Persie had had enough. His team had just got back into the game against the league champions, they were creating chances, and looked like they had the beating of United. Then came a change that shocked almost everyone who watched the game.

Arsene Wenger decided to substitute one of Arsenal’s star performers on the day, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, for the completely underpeforming and out of sorts Andrey Arshavin. This change was booed by all on the terraces and was frankly mind blowing considering Theo Walcott was virtually missing for the entire game.

Robin Van Persie’s reaction told the whole story. He was screaming “NO” from the top of his lungs. Everyone couldn’t believe this was happening. It showed a complete lack of faith from the skipper towards his manager and, to be fair, no one could really argue with the Dutchman.

It was a poor decision from Wenger and it cost his team in the end as Danny Welbeck made it 2-1 to the visitors in the 80th minute. From then on United coasted to victory and closed the gap at the top of the league to 3 points once more on local rivals Manchester City.

But it was the aftermath that has many Arsenal fans biting their nails with anxiety. Will Van Persie be next to go? Will Arsenal lose their second captain in one year? It would seem to be looking that way as Van Persie has finally vented his frustration at Wenger. He is in the prime of his career and has yet to pick up a major trophy with the Gunners, surely a man of his ability wants to win trophies?

I ultimatley think that Van Persie’s hunger to win trophies will out-weigh his desire to remain as Arsenal captain and I wouldn’t be suprised if the Dutchman chose to take his services else where during the summer.

With 15 Premier League goals to his name already this season, Demba Ba’s name has, and continues to be, linked with a move away from current employers Newcastle United. The Senegalese frontman, who is currently preparing to represent his country in the African Cup of Nations, has been nothing short of exceptional since joining Newcastle last summer on a free transfer.

The 26-year old is only behind Arsenal’s Robin Van Persie in the goalscoring charts in the Premier League this season and if you believe reports today, the two could be forming a partnership very soon.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is desperate to bolster his attacking options before the January window shuts and following Newcastle’s acquisition of Ba’s Senegal team-mate Papiss Cisse from Freiburg earlier this week, it would appear the Magpies are preparing for the worst.

A number of clubs are said to be monitoring Ba’s situation with a view to making a move and with several reports claiming that a £10 million buy-out clause exists, concrete offers are sure to arrive soon.

Arsenal have been relying on Van Persie to deliver the goals so far this season and many believe an addition is needed if the Gunners are to finish in the top four come the end of the season. Wenger is frustrated with the lack of end product from the likes of Marouane Chamakh and Gervinho so far this season and is keen to snap up Ba.

What do you think will happen? Feel free to leave your comments below.

Thierry Henry has apologised for using inappropriate language towards an Arsenal fan at the final whistle of his side’s 3-2 defeat away to Swansea on Sunday.

The 34-year old recently rejoined the north London club on a short-term loan deal after spending over 4 years away from the club and got his second spell at Arsenal off to the perfect start by scoring the winner in their 3rd round FA Cup tie against Leeds.

However, things didn’t go as swimmingly in his latest appearances in the red and white after he and his team-mates came in for criticism from a small section of Arsenal fans at the Liberty Stadium on Sunday. Henry had urged his colleagues to go applaud the travelling fans. But, one particular fan saw this as an opportunity to abuse the players, something which Henry certainly did not appreciate.

“When I arrived in front of our own fans, I couldn’t understand the abuse the team were getting from one of them.” Henry told one leading English newspaper. “I wanted to tell the fan in question that we need their support not abuse. The sentiment was right but in hindsight could have been better expressed.”

Henry added: “So I would like to first and foremost apologise for using inappropriate language to that particular ‘supporter’. I didn’t intend to be malicious or threatening and am aware that it could have been said in a calmer manner.”

Very keen to hear Arsenal fans opinion’s on this one. Was Henry within his rights to shell out expletives to the fan yelling abuse, or was he in the wrong? Feel free to leave your comments below.

It was a game that started so well for Arsenal, but ultimately ended in defeat.

Arsene Wenger’s men went ahead with just 5 minutes on the clock at the Liberty Stadium through a familiar source. Robin Van Persie opened the scoring with a typical quality finish to get his side off to the perfect start.

All the Best Sports Books would have had Arsenal as the favourites going into this one and their odds would have shortened significantly when they went into an early lead. However, Swansea were level just ten minutes later when Scott Sinclair made no mistake from the spot.

It was an absorbing game played in front of an enthuisiatic home support, who went wild when Nathan Dyer gave them the lead soon after the break. But, the hosts were pegged back with 69 minutes on the clock, as Theo Walcott finished nicely to bring the sides level again.

The crowd had barely got their breath back when Danny Graham curled a right-footed effort beyond Wojciech Szczesny in the Arsenal goal to make it 3-2 to the Swans. And that was how it stayed. Despite Thierry Henry being on the pitch, Arsenal couldn’t equalise again and so they left Wales empty-handed.

Another massive blow to Arsenal’s chances of finish in the top 4 come the end of the season. It has been an incredibly frustrating season so far for the Gunners faithful and results like this show that they are a side simply not ready to challenge at the very top end.

The Sunday papers are once again full of transfer talk so we thought we would take the liberty to bring you some of the rumours which took our eye.

Ravel Morrison, the Manchester United youngster who has upset Sir Alex Ferguson due to his “unrealistic” wage demands, is apparently wanted by both Arsenal and Barcelona. The 18-year old is tipped by many to go a long way in the game, but it would appear his futures lies away from Old Trafford after he turned down a deal worth up to £15,ooo a-week.

Arsene Wenger and Pep Guardiola are said to be monitoring the highly-rated midfielder’s situation and with Morrison’s current United deal set to expire this summer, the next few days and weeks are bound to see

Meanwhile, Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini is desperate to add steel to his midfield during this transfer window and a name which continues to be mentioned is that of Roma’s Daniele de Rossi. The Italian international has long been linked with a move away from Serie A, with a number of Europe’s elite said to be interested, but for whatever reasons, he remains a Roma player.

But that may be about to change. Mancini has been a long-term admirer of the 28-year old’s and is keen to bring him to the Etihad Stadium in an attempt to aid his side’s title challenge. It is expected that City would have to cough up at least £25 million if they want de Rossi, but with the financial fair play rule in the club’s thoughts, they may have to offload some players first.

And finally for now, Tottenham are preparing a £20 million move for Marseille striker Loic Remy. The 25-year old has been heavily linked with a move away from the French giants for the last year or two and Spurs have always held a keen interest. Harry Redknapp is looking to add two or three faces to his squad before the window shuts as the Spurs boss looks to maintain the club’s title challenge. Remy is to be watched by Spurs officials during tonight’s encounter between Marseille and Lille.

So that’s it for now. Intriguing stuff involving the top three clubs in the Premier League and be sure to stay tuned to Football Corner for all the latest on these and all the other potential deals.
The club are currently sitting a lowly 17th in the Premier League table as a result of some shocking scorelines, most notably the 8-2 defeat by Manchester United and the more recent 4-3 loss at the hands of Blackburn.

But just when Arsene Wenger thought things could only get better, well, things get worse. Arguably one of the most valuable players on the books at Arsenal at the moment is a certain Jack Wilshere and all Gunners fans have been desperate to see him return from injury and regain his place in the starting eleven.

They are going to have to wait though. It was initially expected that Wilshere would be back some time in October, perhaps early November. However, the England international has tonight tweeted to say that his injury is not improving and it will be at least Christmas before he can play again.

“Been in a boot for a month and the bone is not responding. I will have surgery on my right ankle on Monday with the two best surgeons around.” wrote @JackWilshere. He then added: “Hopefully I will return to action around Christmas time. I am in good hands! Thanks for your support everyone!” And yes, we did correct some of young Jack’s grammatical errors.

So, this is yet another blow for Arsenal as they look to turn around a season which is quickly becoming a disaster. Feel free to have your say on the matter by leaving a comment below.

Arsenal travel to Ewood Park on Saturday looking to extend Blackburn’s miserable start to the Premier League season.

Arsenal have had their problems at the start of the new campaign. However, a win last weekend at home to Swansea, followed by a battling point against Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday night has led to a change in attitude amongst the Gunners faithful.

Meanwhile, Blackburn currently sit rock bottom of the table with just a point to show from their opening four games and unsurprisingly, questions are already being asked of manager Steve Kean.

The hosts could be without three of their key players in the shape of Morten Gamst Pedersen, David Dunn and Ryan Nelsen. As for the visitors, Alex Song and Gervinho are set to return following their respective suspensions.

Despite question marks remaining over the current Arsenal squad, I can only see this going one way. Arsene Wenger’s men should have more than enough to earn their first away league victory of the season.

The bookmakers price Arsenal at 10/11 to win the game, while the draw is 12/5 and not that you will want to be backing Blackburn, but they are 7/2 shot to pull off a surprise win.

Prediction: Blackburn 0-2 Arsenal.

What do you think will happen? Comments below please.

Well what a day it was. Plenty of deals just about beat the 11pm deadline and I am sure, like me, a lot of you found yourselves glued to Sky Sports News for most of the day.

Chelsea pulled off one of the most surprise moves of the whole window as they snapped up Liverpool midfielder Raul Meireles late in the day for a fee of around £12 million. The Portuguese international handed in a written transfer request at Anfield on deadline day and got his wish for a move away from the club, but it wasn’t until just after the 11pm deadline that the deal was confirmed.

Liverpool also said goodbye, for now at least, to another midfielder. Joe Cole departed for a season-long loan with French Champions Lille. The former West Ham man made the switch to Ligue 1 despite late interest from Premier League side Aston Villa.

Staying with Liverpool and Kenny Dalglish secured the signing of Craig Bellamy late on Wednesday night following a day of intense speculation regarding the player’s future. The now ex-Manchester City striker had been tipped to make the move to Premier League new-boys QPR earlier in the day. However, once Liverpool declared their interest, it seemed their was only one destination for Bellamy and that was Merseyside. Bellamy, 32, has of coursed already played in the red of Liverpool and fans will no doubt welcome him back with open arms (well, the majority of them anyway).

Arsenal also got in on the act on deadline day. They signed Chelsea’s Yossi Benayoun on a season-long loan deal, whilst they also completed the signing of Everton’s Mikel Arteta for a fee of £10 million. Arteta’s move seemed dead in the water with just a few hours to go before the window shut. However, all parties involved eventually came to an agreement and Arteta will now be wearing the red and white of Arsenal this season and not the blue of Everton.

Two clubs who were very busy throughout Wednesday were both Stoke City and indeed QPR who both made signifcant additions to their squads. Stoke boss Tony Pulis can now select these three in his starting eleven; Wilson Palacios, Cameron Jerome and Peter Crouch after a busy day of spending at the Britannia. Meanwhile, QPR manager Neil Warnock managed to add the likes of Shaun Wright-Phillips, Jason Puncheon and Anton Ferdinand after a hectic 24 hours at Loftus Road.

And finally, Fulham completed the £10 million signing of FC Twente striker Bryan Ruiz, despite some very late interest from Newcastle United.

It really was an eventful day with plenty of money been splashed on different players throughout the Premier League (Speaking of splashing the cash, check out www.freebets.org today where you can avail of many different offers from leading bookmakers).
