It was a dour, rainy day for all in Perth on Saturday. None more so than for new Hibs manager Pat Fenlon. Fenlon watched from the stands having taken over from the outgoing Colin Calderwood during the week and witnessed his new side being beaten by Steve Lomas’ St. Johnstone 3-1 at McDairmid Park.

Leaving behind League of Ireland side Bohemians F.C. Fenlon becomes Hibs eighth manager in ten years following in the footsteps of the likes of Mixu Paatelainen, Tony Mowbray, Alex McLeish and Frank Sauzee and his task is an unenviable one, trickier than the majority of his predecessors.

This season has seen Hibs fall into free fall under the former regime and sees them scrapping away near the bottom of the table with a defence that looks like it has never played together and goalkeeping position that has been rotated regularly throughout the season between Graham Stack and Mark Brown.

It is however undeniable that Hibs have potential. They have players that could easily get a game for the better teams in the SPL like the young Daniel Galbraith and the more experienced midfielder Osbourne. They have one of the best forward lines outside the Old Firm with Garry O’Connor and Wolves loanee Leigh Griffiths who can provide that vital cutting edge when you least expect it, but the supply has just not been there all season with Ivan Sproule blowing hot and cold and David Wotherspoon seeming uninterested in many games.

Fenlon must find consistency in an unpredictable side and it is probable that signings will be made in the January transfer window. His appointment has however been met with the occasional raised eyebrow here in Scotland. The favourite for the job had been Shamrock Rovers boss and former Hibee Michael O’Neill, but with Rovers current Euro run and the added obstacle of compensation to be agreed then Fenlon was thrust into the frame. Fenlon had indeed been close to completing a move to Dundee United over two years ago but ironically compensation was the obstacle then.

Fenlon must however look to the past to ensure he does not fall where fellow Irishmen have. Back in 2007 Derry City boss Stephen Kenny took over the reigns of Dunfermline as they battled relegation against Paisley side St. Mirren. Indeed Kenny’s lack of transfer guile, signing the likes of Bobby Ryan and Jamie Harris from Shelbourne, and apparent failure to motive his men led to Dunfermline being relegated, add that to a poor start in the First Division Kenny was dismissed early in the 2007/2008 season.

If Fenlon can learn from these mistakes and build a stable environment at Easter Road it is evident that he has every chance of becoming a success in the capital. Hibernian are a big side and should not be battling out in the relegation area at this stage of the season therefore Fenlon must act, and act quickly he must if he is to avoid the same feat of Calderwood and the many over users of Hibernian’ s revolving door.

Tonight’s trip to face St Patrick’s Athletic at Richmond Park is likely to be Pat Fenlon’s last game in charge of Bohemians after a three-year spell with the Phibsborough outfit.

Fenlon, 42, has been strongly linked with a move to Scottish giants Celtic in recent days after it was revealed that he was to meet with the Bohs board earlier this week in a bid to resolve his future one way or the other.

Following Mixu Paatelainen’s decision to quit Kilmarnock to become the new manager of the Finland national team on Thursday, speculation is mounting that Fenlon may now opt to take the job at Rugby Park.

In his three years in the hot seat at Dalymount Park, Fenlon has led Bohs to two league titles, one FAI Cup, one League Cup and also guided the club to victory in last year’s Setanta Cup.

Fenlon appeared to be saying goodbye to the Bohemians faithful after last Friday’s 1-0 defeat to Galway, but after a week of intense speculation, Nutsy remains in charge, but for how long is the question.

In all probability, tonight will be Nutsy’s last game as manager of Bohemians. It is sad to see, without doubt, the best manager in the league set to leave the country, but that’s life. I have no doubt in my mind that Fenlon will be a success in Scotland and I personally wish him all the best.

The club needs every single penny it can get right now and I would just like to take this opportunity to tell you about the Bohemian FC Fantasy League.

I’m sure you are all well aware of the fantasy football game on www.premierleague.com and I am also fairly sure the majority of you have your own team on the site.

Well fans of Bohs have set up a private league which I would encourage you to join. There are quite a few prizes up for grabs, including a top prize of over €250 for the winner. There is even a prize for the person who comes last in the league.

The league starts this weekend, so don’t worry if your team haven’t done well so far because now is the time to turn your fortunes around. It costs €20 (+ a transaction fee of one euro something), with €10 going straight to Bohs and the other €10 going into the prize pool, so the more people that enter, the bigger the prize money!

I really would appreciate it if you would consider joining the league. Cheers.

In an effort to raise vital funds for Bohemian FC, fans of the Irish club have been desperately trying to think of ways to make some money and one of the fundraising events I’d like to tell you about is ‘Last Man Standing.’

I am sure many of you have heard of the actual game before.

Basically, you pick a Premier League team to win each weekend (you can’t pick the same team twice) until there is only one man (or woman) left standing and quite simply, they are the winner and take home the cash prize.

It only costs €10 (plus an extra €.74 cent which pays for the website fees) to enter, with half of that going towards the prize and the other half being donated to Bohemians. The winner should receive at least €2,000 (the more people who enter, the bigger the prize) so I really would encourage anyone reading this to join right now.

It really would mean a lot to myself if you could spare a tenner to enter the competition. Cheers.

I have absolutely loved running this blog since I created it back in 2005 and although you may not agree with opinion from time to time, I still really appreciate you taking the time to read the site.

I look forward to continuing my work on the blog and I hope to make it bigger and better in the coming months.

Anyway, I wanted to bring to your attention the current state of my beloved Bohemian Football Club.

The club is in a mess at the moment to put it bluntly. The fans have been asked to raise €300,000 over the coming weeks in attempt to keep the club alive and it really would mean a lot to me if you could donate a few euro to the cause.

I have been following Bohs for a number of years now and I must say the club has given me some of the best days of my life and it really does break my heart to think that we could be going out of existence. Even if you could just donate a tenner that really would mean a lot to myself and indeed many other Bohs fans.

So if you want to help save one of the most successful clubs in Ireland, please go to Bohemians.ie now and click on the donate button where you can donate as little or as much as you like.

Thanks very much for reading.

Now, 12 months later, the former WFTA striker is just two weeks away from possibly the biggest moment of his short career. A Champions League appearance for League of Ireland Champions Bohemians.

Madden, 20, is now recognised as one of the best strikers playing in the League of Ireland and Bohs boss Pat Fenlon is likely to have a battle on his hands to keep Ireland under-23 international at Dalymount Park with several English sides believed to be interested.

The one criticism many Bohs fans had of Madden since he broke into the first team was that he didn’t score enough goals for a striker. With six goals in his last three games for the Gypsies, Madden is certainly beginning to prove some of his critics wrong.

Madden is arguably in the form of his career and with the first leg of Bohs Champions League 2nd qualifying round tie with Welsh Champions TNS only just around the corner, it would be quite a shock if Paddy wasn’t one of the eleven who lined out in Dalymount Park on July 13th.

I am a big fan of Madden’s and in my opinion that he has a big future ahead of him. Personally, I would like to see him stay with Bohs for years to come but there is obviously the possibility that he will go to England. He is still very young and there is no doubt that his best years are ahead of him.

Bohs play Sporting Fingal this Friday night in Dalymount Park in a game which is crucial for both sides title aspirations. Barring an injury, Madden will be lining up for Bohs in a match which promises to be a cracker. If you’re in the Dublin area, why not head down to the home of the champions this Friday night?

It should be a cracker of a game in the south Dublin venue between two sides who are bang in contention at the top of the League of Ireland table.

Bohs have never won a game at Tallaght Stadium but despite that fact, they go into the game as slight favourites with the Gypsies priced at around 11/10 with most bookies.

Pats have got off to a superb start in the league and are considered by many as Bohs main challengers for the title this season.

The two managers, Pat Fenlon and Pete Mahon will no doubt be doing all they can to claim the first bit of silverware on offer to them. The game kicks-off at 6:30 pm on Saturday evening and is live on Setanta Sports. There are also some tickets remaining and I would urge anyone in the Dublin area to go along for what promises to be a great game of football.

I personally believe it will be a close encounter between two great sides and I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see the game go into extra-time.

Football Corner prediction: St Pat’s 1-2 Bohs (aet).

Just thought I would let you know about 2 superb competitions currently being run by the fundraising team at Bohemian FC.

If you fancy winning a trip (for 2) to this season’s Champions League final in Madrid then I suggest you enter the ‘Ultimate Football Fans Draw’. Tickets cost just €10 and not only is there a trip to the Champions League final, but there are also two other magnificent prizes to be won.

To buy your ticket for the ‘Ultimate Football Fans Draw’ and to find out more information about the draw, just click this link.

The other competition which I wanted to tell you about is the ‘World Cup Sweepstake’. The organiser had to set up a 2nd competition because the 1st one sold out within two days.

The winner of the sweepstake is the team that scores the most amount of goals at this summer’s World Cup in South Africa, however there is a twist. Each of the 32 teams is given a handicap (for example, Spain receive a handicap of 0 goals, whilst New Zealand receive a handicap of 12 goals).

The winner gets a cool €320. To find out more information about the sweepstake and to buy your ticket, just click this link.

Anyway, I would really appreciate it if you would consider entering one or both of the competitions. I’m sure you’ll agree that there are some terrific prizes to be won and it doesn’t cost a fortune to enter either of them.

Half of the money you spend entering goes directly to the current League of Ireland Champions Bohemians and as I am an avid follower of the club it really would mean a hell of a lot to me.

Cheers
