It looks set to be a busy day ahead for all at Arsenal as Arsene Wenger attempts to strengthen his squad ahead of the close of the summer transfer window at 11pm on Wednesday evening.

With Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas both leaving the Emirates earlier in the window, Arsenal now find themselves in desperate need of a top class central midfield player and their search to find one may well see them contacting Everton on deadline day.

Both Mikel Arteta and Marouane Fellaini are believed to be high on Wenger’s wish-list, but given the quality of player, Everton boss David Moyes is unlikely to be too keen to sell. However, much has been made about the lack of finances at Goodison Park and should a bid of near the £18 million mark come in for either player, a deal may well be done.

Plenty of names are being linked with moves to Arsenal after the club got off to, what can only be described as a desperate start to the new Premier League season. Deals to sign Per Mertesacker, Andre Santos and Park-Chu young have all been completed, but a central midfield player still needs to be added. Will that central midfield player be either Arteta or Fellaini, or maybe it will be someone else altogether?

For what’s it worth, I reckon Arteta would suit Arsenal down to the ground. We all know how good a player the 29-year old is and maybe it’s time he tested himself at the very highest level, with all due respect to Everton of course.

After 8 years, 303 appearances, 57 goals and 100 assists, Cesc Fabregas has finally returned to the club where it all began for him, Barcelona.

The Spanish midfielder was today introduced to the assembled media at the Camp Nou as a Barcelona player, but despite being overjoyed about his “dream move”, he was keen to let the gathered journalists and those watching at home know just how much gratitude he has for everyone at Arsenal.

“I will never have enough words to say how grateful I am,” said Fabregas. “”I spoke to [Wenger] on Friday to say goodbye and got very emotional because he has been like a father figure. I couldn’t even talk when I wanted to say how grateful I was for what he has done to me, so I had to send a message afterwards saying thanks for everything. If it was not for him I would not be here today to live my dream.”

Fabregas went onto add: “I went from being a boy to a man and they gave me absolutely everything in football. I have mixed emotions. Life goes on. Arsenal will always be there, the fans will always be there. Players come and go; the club will always be bigger than them.”

The man who will now be wearing the number 4 for the European Champions later tweeted: “To all Gunners: A big thank you for your unconditional support during the last 8 yrs. Just say that I will always carry you in my heart!”

Arsene Wenger has also had his say on the matter: ”We have lost a world class player and we are sad about it, we did try to keep him. In the end we had to respect the desire of the player. This club is 125 years old this season and many big players have left the club and the club has gone on. So we want to show we have the strength and the unity to fight as ever.”

A sad day for all Arsenal fans and indeed admirers of the Premier League in general. Fabregas was, without doubt, one of the league’s top performers over the last half dozen years and it is always a shame to see the world’s most talented players leaving the league we all love so much. It may be £34 million in the coffers, but it’s fair to say that Arsenal are going to miss Fabregas and will find it incredibly hard to replace him. However, with the likes of Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere still at the Emirates, perhaps the loss of Cesc won’t be such a blow to the north London club.

In reference to Ramsey and Wilshere, Fabregas had plenty to say about the two of them and spoke of them in glowing terms. He finished his praise of the two by simply saying: “They are winners and they will be amazing for the club for sure.”

Farewell Cesc.

Simples.

Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola has today claimed that Arsenal have agreed to negotiate with the European Champions with regards a deal for Cesc Fabregas.

Fabregas, 24, has long been linked with a move back to the club where it all began for him and many believe it is now inevitable that the Spanish international will be plying his trade in the Camp Nou next season.

Speaking earlier today, Guardiola had this to say when asked about the on-going speculation surrounding the future of Fabregas: ”This year Arsenal has agreed to negotiate and we are working on it. Barcelona has made an offer, Arsenal another and we have time until August 31 and we’ll try to reach an agreement.”

Guardiola went onto add: “It is easier for Cesc in this way because he fits the template, but I know these things cannot always be done.”

I really am getting fed up of this. The deal will 100% go through this summer, but the fact the two clubs are dragging it out for so long is incredibly frustrating. The bookies seem as certain as myself that Fabregas will indeed be a Barcelona player next season. He is a 1/10 shot to join the Catalan club this summer.

Comment are, as always, very welcome.

Just first of all, very briefly, if you want to be in with a chance of winning a jersey of your choice, just go to our Facebook page and post the name of the 2011 Champions League final winners on there. Best of luck!

I know a lot of you are probably sick and tired of reading about the Cesc Fabregas transfer saga, but it looks a real possibility now that the Arsenal captain will make the move to the Camp Nou this summer to re-join the club he represented at youth level, Barcelona.

If and when Fabregas does leave, I am curious to find out who you believe Arsene Wenger should go and sign as a replacement.

There has been so much talk about it over the past months and indeed years, but at the end of the day, I personally feel Cesc will leave the Emirates for a fee of around £37 million and Wenger will no doubt be given that money to reinvest in new players.

But who should the Frenchman aim to sign? Several players have already been linked with a move to Arsenal including the likes of Jermain Defoe and Scott Parker, but as of yet, no major signings have been made since the 2010/2011 campaign, which was very disappointing for all Gunners fans, came to an end.

So feel free to tell us who Arsenal should sign this summer by leaving a comment below.

It is being reported today that the Arsenal captain will be allowed leave the Emirates should Spanish and European Champions Barcelona make a reasonable offer.

When asked if the north London club expect another offer to be made from Barcelona this week, a source close to the club said: “Possibly yes, and if it’s enough then I expect we’ll have to sell.”

To tell you the truth, like anyone else who has a strong interest in the game of football, I am getting fairly fed up with this whole thing. Fabregas, 24, has been strongly linked with a move back to the Camp Nou for a number of years now and even the most ardent Arsenal fan will admit that it is only a matter of time before this happens.

I am just curious, if Arsenal were to receive a bid of around the £40 million mark, do you Gunners fans believe the club should sell and therefore have more money to invest in new players?

Please leave your comments below.

Reports today claim that the Champions of both Spain and Europe, Barcelona, are ready to start the bidding for Arsenal’s Cesc Fabregas at £30 million.

Fabregas, 24, has long been linked with a move away from the Emirates and after yet another trophyless season for the north London club, many in the game believe that this will be the summer where he finally departs.

Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola is keen to improve what is already considered to be one of the greatest club sides we have ever seen and Fabregas is understood to be his number one target.

Arsenal will no doubt do everything they can to hold onto their captain, but with the club he played his youth football with so desperate to sign him, Arsene Wenger may have to prepare for life without Fabregas.

The rumoured £30 million surely isn’t enough to convince Arsenal to sell. In my eyes, Fabregas is one of the best central midfield players on the planet and has to be worth at least £45 million. With Manchester City also understood to be keen, Arsenal could easily receive £50 million if they were let Cesc go to Eastlands, but I am sure the majority of Gunners fans would hate to see him wearing blue next season.
