The former Liverpool man came on for Didier Drogba during the 2nd half and fully deserved his goal when it arrived with 84 minutes on the clock at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea splashed £50 million on Torres back in January and you don’t need me to tell you that his first few months at the club haven’t exactly gone according to plan.

However, Torres finally got off the mark today with a lovely left-footed finish inside the West Ham box which led to joyous celebrations amongst the players, fans and management at Chelsea.

I’m sure today’s goal was a huge relief for Torres and indeed everyone else at Chelsea. I for one am predicting that this is just the first of many many goals for Torres in a Chelsea shirt.

The 26-year old scored over 80 goals in a Liverpool jersey, but it looks certain that he has now played his last game for the club and will join Chelsea later this evening.

It looks certain that Fernando Torres will join Chelsea before the transfer window shuts at 11pm this evening, leaving Liverpool short of numbers in the striking department.

The Merseyside club will finalise the minor details of Luis Suarez’s £22.8 million move from Ajax later this morning, but Kenny Dalglish remains keen to add another striker to his squad before tonight’s deadline.

Could Newcastle United’s Andy Carroll make the move to Anfield?

Well there are reports this morning claiming that Liverpool will make a £28 million bid for the England striker once the £50 million Torres deal is confirmed.

Carroll, 22, has made a big impression in the Premier League this season and has been the subject of interest from Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp throughout the January window.

From a personal point of view, I believe Carroll is top drawer and would be a superb signing for Liverpool, but with Newcastle unwilling to sell it seems unlikely that he will make the move. The next few hours should tell us a lot as to whether or not Carroll leaves or stays at St James’ Park.

The French striker has been heavily linked with a move back to Anfield in recent days following the news that Chelsea are keen to sign Liverpool striker Fernando Torres.

It is reported that Liverpool would want to sign Anelka as part of any deal that would see Torres move to Stamford Bridge. However, with Anelka happy with life at Chelsea, it looks as though he won’t be going to Liverpool as part of any possible deal.

Anelka, 31, spent six months on loan at Anfield back in the 2001/2002 season, scoring five goals for the Merseyside club. With Roman Abramovich so desperate to sign Torres, I personally reckon Chelsea may force Anelka to join Liverpool.

What do you think will happen? Feel free to leave your comments below.

It will be fascinating to see what happens over the next 22 hours or so. Football Corner will keep you up to date with all the latest throughout transfer deadline day.

Several newspapers and different media outlets claim that a £50 million deal will be struck, whilst others claim that Liverpool will opt to keep the Spanish striker.

We all know how good a player Torres is on his day and I am sure every Liverpool fan will have an opinion on this one.

The Anfield club have now all but signed Ajax striker Luis Suarez and I would personally love to see how the two would do in the same team. However, I would also be fascinated to see Torres and Didier Drogba strike up a partnership at Stamford Bridge.

So what do you think? Should Liverpool let Torres leave or should they keep him? Comments below please.

Liverpool have tonight rejected a £35 million bid from Chelsea for striker Fernando Torres.

The Spanish striker was strongly linked with a move away from Anfield last summer, but tonight’s breaking news comes somewhat out of the blue.

Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti is desperate to add another striker to his squad before the transfer window shuts on Monday.

It was reported on Tuesday night that the London club had made a bid for Atletico Madrid striker Sergio Aguero, but the Spanish club denied it.

Torres, 26, has struggled to produce his top form in the red of Liverpool this season and there was talk before the window opened that he may be on his way out of Merseyside.

Kenny Dalglish will no doubt be desperate to keep hold of, undoubtedly, one of his most prized assets and tonight’s news that the club have rejected a £35 million bid is positive news for Liverpool fans, in my view.

Torres is just starting to produce some of his best form of late and it would be a real shame if he left now. Real interested to hear your thoughts on the matter. Feel free to leave your comments below.

Despite lifting the World Cup, 2010 has been a year to forget for Fernando Torres. The Liverpool striker has struggled to produce the type of performances which saw him earn the reputation as one of the best frontmen in the business.

Torres, 26, scored just a handful of goals in the red of Liverpool over the last 12 months and his below par performances have seen him come in for some heavy criticism amongst fans and pundits alike.

Even the player’s most ardent fan will admit that the Spaniard hasn’t been himself of late and his recent form is worrying. Granted, Torres has had a number of different injuries. However, previous injuries are simply no excuse for his appauling display against Wolves on Wednesday night.

Even Jamie Redknapp (who loves talking shite for hours and hours about how good every second player is) had a go at Torres after Liverpool’s 1-0 defeat to Wolves.

There is clearly something wrong with Torres and it may well have something to do with Roy Hodgson still being in charge with Anfield. I get the impression that Torres feels he is too good for Liverpool and as a result, doesn’t see the point in putting in a 100% to help his team mates.

Perhaps I’m being harsh on Torres, but in my view, Liverpool would be better off cashing in on him now, while he still commands a high price, before he puts in another six months of bog standard performances and then is worth half his value.

There would be no shortage of interested parties, with the likes of Internazionale and Real Madrid understood to be interested. If Liverpool were offered anywhere near the £40 million mark for Torres, I personally believe they should wave goodbye to ‘El Nino’.

What do you reckon? Should Liverpool look to sell Torres now? Comments below please.
