I am sure we have all seen the incident by now. In case you haven’t, France striker Thierry Henry handled the ball before setting up William Gallas for the winning goal in last night’s World Cup play-off second leg.

The goal meant France will be on the plane to South Africa next summer, unless FIFA decide to listen to the FAI’s appeals to have the second-leg replayed.

So, will Ireland get the replay. Well Football Corner wants you to sum up Ireland’s chances in just three words. Whenever we do the ‘three words to sum up’ feature we always seem to get a great response, so it would be great to get that again. Please tell me your three words by leaving a comment below.

My three words : not a hope

We’ve all seen the headlines today. Most of them have revolved around France striker Theirry Henry being a cheat for handling the ball in the Ireland box to set-up the winning goal in extra-time last night in the Stade de France.

Those papers blaming Henry for Ireland’s dramatic World Cup exit are just ridiculous. It wasn’t Henry’s fault. It was the fault of the referee on the night, and his assistants. I am 100% percent sure that Henry, 30, was fully expecting the ref to blow his whistle to give a free out, however that never happened and it’s France who go through.

Henry is still, in my mind, a terrific footballer, who is without doubt one of the greatest strikers in the world. As former Ireland international defender Kenny Cunnigham said, if Henry is cheat then you may as well call me a cheat aswell because he got away with shirt-pulling and all sorts in the past.

Regardless of what the ref did, the simple fact of the matter is that, Ireland should have dealt with the ball played into the box. It’s fair to say that Paul McShane should have put his big red head on the ball and put it out for a throw.

Talks of a replay are just nonsense. It’s never going to happen, simple as and the sooner we Irish accept that, the better.

I’m keen to hear what you have to say on this one. Comments below please.

Ask the majority of Sunderland fans who their player of the season has been so far this year and chances of are, some will say either Lee Cattermole or Darren Bent, however one name you will hear mentioned time and again is that of Andy Reid.

The 27-year old has been in superb form this campaign for his club, however Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni continues to ignore him in terms of an international recall. Many have claimed that Reid’s weight issue is the reason behind it all, however last week, as I travelled by taxi to Dublin airport ahead of my weekend away in England, the taxi driver, who happened to go to school with the former Tottenham midfielder, told me the real reason.

He told me that Reid’s fondness of an oul sing-a-long got him into trouble with Ireland assistant manager Liam Brady. Reid and a few of his Ireland team-mate’s were having a drink at a bar in Germany following the side’s World Cup qualifying victory over Georgia. Brady told th lads at the bar to go to bed, however Reid decided to tell Brady where to go and as they say, the rest is history.

I don’t care what anyone says, Reid is without doubt one of Ireland’s most talented players at the moment. It is a real shame that he is not in the set-up because I have no doubt that with him in the Green jersey, Ireland are a far better outfit. Judging by today’s news that Reid has once again, unsurprisingly, been left out of Trapattoni’s squad to face Italy and Montenegro for next month’s qualifiers in Dublin, it’s not looking good for Andy’s international future.

Although I would love to say that Reid will one day pull on the Ireland jersey again and earn his 28th international cap, I just can’t. As long as Liam Brady is part of the set-up, Reid will continue to impress for Sunderland and continue to be ignored by his country. Shame.

What do you think? Comments below please.
