After weeks and weeks of speculation regarding Javier Mascherano’s future, it would seem that Liverpool have finally agreed a deal to sell the midfielder to Spanish giants Barcelona.

The Argentine has been strongly linked with a move away from Anfield ever since he admitted that he would be interested in a summer move away from Merseyside.

Inter Milan were the early favourites to sign Mascherano. However, it was reported earlier this week that Barca were in negotiations to sign the 26-year old and after a number of days of increased speculation, it has been confirmed this morning that the two clubs have come to an agreement.

The fee is understood to be around the £18 million mark and Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson will no doubt be keen to add another midfielder to his squad before the transfer window shuts next Tuesday.

A lot has been said about Mascherano in recent days and weeks but no matter what you think of the guy, you can’t deny he is a quality player. It will be interesting to see if he gets much of a game at the Camp Nou considering the fact Pep Guardiola already has a number of world class midfielders to chose from.

We want to know what you have to say on this one. Comments below please.

Liverpool are reportedly in talks with Real Madrid to sign midfielder Mahamadou Diarra as the Merseyside club prepare for life without Javier Mascherano.

Roy Hodgson is willing to let Mascherano join Barcelona if the Spanish giants meet Liverpool’s £19 million asking price.

With Mascherano likely to leave Anfield in the coming days, Hodgson is already looking for possible replacements. Dozens of names have been linked with a move to Liverpool this summer but with Real looking to offload a number of midfielders, Diarra is now seen as a likely acquisition.

The 29-year old is desperate to leave the Bernabeu before the transfer window shuts following the arrival of Mesut Ozil at the club. It is understood that Liverpool would have to cough up somewhere near the £5 million mark if they are to get their hands on the Malian international.

I personally believe Diarra would be a superb signing for Liverpool. He is a very similar player to Mascherano in that he rarely ever gets on the scoresheet but he has a terrific range of passing and at the rumoured £5 million, I think he would prove excellent value for money.

The Argentinian international is desperate to leave Anfield before the transfer window shuts at the end of the month and with Barca still in the market for a new midfielder following their failed pursuit of Arsenal’s Cesc Fabregas, it is suggested the Spanish giants will make a £22 million bid in the coming days.

Inter Milan president, Massimo Moratti today said that at the moment, the current European Champions cannot afford to buy Mascherano. Just hours later, Mascherano, 26, was quoted as saying that he would “love” a move to the Camp Nou and a move is likely to be completed early next week.

It will be fascinating to see how Mascherano adapts to life in La Liga. Even Liverpool fans, who have clearly lost a lot of respect for the player, would have to admit that he is a world class midfielder who deserves to be playing at the very highest level. We would love to hear your thoughts on this one. Simply leave your comments below.

You can buy a whole host of Premier League tickets and La Liga tickets right now.

Plenty of names have already been linked with a move to Anfield in recent weeks and if you believe some reports, Liverpool are close to signing Juventus midfielder Christian Poulsen.

Even if Poulsen does sign, I, like many others, believe Hodgson will still buy a new central midfield player in the coming weeks. I have said it before, I reckon West Ham’s Scott Parker would be an excellent addition to the Liverpool squad but with the Hammers understandably reluctant to sell one of their star players, it would take a big offer to bring the former Chelsea midfielder to Merseyside.

So if and when Mascherano does leave, who should Liverpool sign to replace him? Please leave your comments below.

You can buy yourself FA Cup tickets and Carling Cup tickets right now.

Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano looks to edging ever closer to the Anfield exit door with his agent admitting this evening that the Argentine international has held talks with an Inter Milan representative regarding the possibility of a potential move.

Mascherano, 26, is believed to be interested in a move to the European Champions but it remains to be seen if Inter, now managed by Rafael Benitez of course, will cough up the £25 million Liverpool are apparently looking for.

Marco Piccioli, Mascherano’s agent, had this to say earlier today: “There has already been a first contact with (Inter) director Marco Branca. We’re evaluating the move hard and in the next few days we’ll have a new meeting to better establish the details of this transfer deal.”

Personally, I would be shocked to see Mascherano still wearing the red of Liverpool next season. I am a huge fan of his and I know some people won’t like me for saying this, but I believe he is too good for Liverpool.

Mascherano is no doubt one of the best midfielders in the world and it would come as a surprise to me if Inter are the only club looking to sign him this summer. We would like to know what you have to say on this one. Please leave your comments below.

With the opening of the January transfer window fast approaching, the transfer rumours really are in full flow. Today sees Spanish giants Barcelona linked with an incredible £83 million bid for Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney and a £20 million bid for Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano.

It is perhaps surprising to see Rooney, 24, linked with a move away from Old Trafford considering the fact it was only two days ago when the England frontman admitted he would love to finish his career at United. The News of the World claims that Barca are looking to exploit United’s massive debts with the £83 million bid, however it is unlikely that Sir Alex Ferguson will sanction any move.

Since joining United back in 2004, Rooney has scored over a 100 goals in all competitions for the club and I think it’s fair to say that should he leave, there would be some amount of dismay amongst the United faithful.

Meanwhile, Barca are also understood to be preparing a move for Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano. The Argentine international was strongly linked with a move away from Merseyside in the summer, however for whatever reasons, nothing ever materialised. Barca boss Pep Guardiola is desperate to add to his squad in January and with money not a problem for the current European Champions, Mascherano is seen as a likely addition.

It is no secret that Mascherano, 25, has never fully seen eye to eye with Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez since arriving at Anfield back in 2007 from West Ham. It is thought that Liverpool would jump at the chance to cash in on Mascherano in order to improve their strike force which, in my view, desperately needs adding to.

I personally think that should Barca make a bid of £20 million this January, Mascherano will be wearing the red and blue of the Catlan giants. There is no doubt he is a good player, however should Alberto Aquilani turn out to be in any way decent, they don’t really need Mascherano.

So, what do you think? I feel that Rooney will not be going but Mascherano will. Comments below please.
