Follow us on Twitter today – @AFootballCorner.

Darren Bent’s name continues to be linked with a move to Liverpool this January with now less than two weeks to go before the close of the transfer window.

The England international is, according to reports, high on Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish’s wish list and the Merseyside club are said to be keen to make an offer for the player.

Bent, 27, is open to a potential move to Anfield. However, Villa boss, Alex McLeish has today been quoted as saying the following: “Am I wanting to do (transfer) business? I am not pushing. I am not in any hurry to lose any of my players.”

The former Rangers and Birmingham manager went on to add: “Only if it was an attractive proposition would we do anything so it’s very unlikely we would let any of our players go.”

The fact McLeish used the phrase attractive proposition in his answer says it all really. If Liverpool really want Bent then they will get him. It all depends on how much they are willing to fork out.

With Villa having splashed £24 million on Bent just 12 months ago, they are unlikely to let him go for anything less than that, so are Liverpool prepared to make a serious off to get their hands on the prolific goalscorer? Time will tell.

Follow us on Twitter – @AFootballCorner

The last 12 months have been rather strange in the life of English striker Andy Carroll.

The 22-year old completed an incredible £35 million move from Newcastle to Liverpool on transfer deadline day last January, and has since then endured a frustrating time at Anfield, to say the very least.

Carroll has netted on just 6 occassions for Kenny Dalglish’s side, but the manager insists that the most expensive player in British football is going nowhere.

When quizzed about the possiblity of Carroll making the move back to Newcastle, Dalglish reacted angrily, saying: “You have absolutely no foundation whatsoever (for the stories). I don’t need to justify what is in the paper. I have stood up – and always will stand up – for the players.”

There had been suggestions over the last number of days that Liverpool would be willing to offload for a cut-price fee of £10 million, but according to Dalglish, that simply isn’t the case.

With Luis Suarez still serving that well-documented 8-game ban, huge expectations are being placed on the shoulders of Carroll to step up and deliver the goods. Last night’s somewhat average display by the big number 9 won’t have filled the Liverpool faithful with much confidence that he can actually deliver.

Well what a day it was. Plenty of deals just about beat the 11pm deadline and I am sure, like me, a lot of you found yourselves glued to Sky Sports News for most of the day.

Chelsea pulled off one of the most surprise moves of the whole window as they snapped up Liverpool midfielder Raul Meireles late in the day for a fee of around £12 million. The Portuguese international handed in a written transfer request at Anfield on deadline day and got his wish for a move away from the club, but it wasn’t until just after the 11pm deadline that the deal was confirmed.

Liverpool also said goodbye, for now at least, to another midfielder. Joe Cole departed for a season-long loan with French Champions Lille. The former West Ham man made the switch to Ligue 1 despite late interest from Premier League side Aston Villa.

Staying with Liverpool and Kenny Dalglish secured the signing of Craig Bellamy late on Wednesday night following a day of intense speculation regarding the player’s future. The now ex-Manchester City striker had been tipped to make the move to Premier League new-boys QPR earlier in the day. However, once Liverpool declared their interest, it seemed their was only one destination for Bellamy and that was Merseyside. Bellamy, 32, has of coursed already played in the red of Liverpool and fans will no doubt welcome him back with open arms (well, the majority of them anyway).

Arsenal also got in on the act on deadline day. They signed Chelsea’s Yossi Benayoun on a season-long loan deal, whilst they also completed the signing of Everton’s Mikel Arteta for a fee of £10 million. Arteta’s move seemed dead in the water with just a few hours to go before the window shut. However, all parties involved eventually came to an agreement and Arteta will now be wearing the red and white of Arsenal this season and not the blue of Everton.

Two clubs who were very busy throughout Wednesday were both Stoke City and indeed QPR who both made signifcant additions to their squads. Stoke boss Tony Pulis can now select these three in his starting eleven; Wilson Palacios, Cameron Jerome and Peter Crouch after a busy day of spending at the Britannia. Meanwhile, QPR manager Neil Warnock managed to add the likes of Shaun Wright-Phillips, Jason Puncheon and Anton Ferdinand after a hectic 24 hours at Loftus Road.

And finally, Fulham completed the £10 million signing of FC Twente striker Bryan Ruiz, despite some very late interest from Newcastle United.

It really was an eventful day with plenty of money been splashed on different players throughout the Premier League (Speaking of splashing the cash, check out www.freebets.org today where you can avail of many different offers from leading bookmakers).

Craig Bellamy’s move from Manchester City to Liverpool is on the brink, with the Welsh international currently on Merseyside, crossing the t’s and dotting the i’s as they say in the business.

After a hectic day of speculation surrounding the 32-year old’s future, it looks as though Bellamy will be posing with a Liverpool shirt at Anfield tomorrow, 4 years after he left the club.

Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta’s on-off move to Arsenal appears to be firmly on at this stage. The Everton midfielder has told David Moyes that he wants out of Goodison Park and Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is only too happy to hand £10 million over to sign the Spaniard.

The fee has been agreed, all that is needed is for a medical to be carried out, and Arteta to agree personal terms with the north London club.

Both deals, in our opinion, will go through before the 11pm deadline. What do you think though? Comments below please.

Just over 6 hours to go now before that transfer window SLAMS shut. Jim White is due on Sky Sports News at 8pm so we are all really looking forward to that I presume.

Anyway, two rumours I wanted to bring to your attention in our latest article.

The first one is – Liverpool are closing on the loan signing of Chelsea’s England under-21 striker Daniel Sturridge. The 21-year old, he will turn 22 tomorrow, is likely to find himself on the bench if he stays at Stamford Bridge, with a number of strikers ahead of him in the pecking order.

As a result, he has been strongly linked with a move away, with a number of Premier League clubs said to monitoring his situation. With time running out in this transfer window, Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish has decided to make a late move for the former Manchester City striker after the Merseyside club accepted a bid from Bolton for David Ngog. Stay tuned to Football Corner for all the latest developments with regards Sturridge.

Franck Ribery always seems to be linked with a move to the Premier League whenever the transfer window is open, and it is perhaps a surprise that it has taken this long for his name to be mentioned. The French international is being linked with a late move to Chelsea, who are desperate to add another midfielder to their ranks, after they missed out on Tottenham’s Luka Modric.

Bayern Munich are unlikely to be too keen to sell one of their most prized assets, but with Chelsea prepared to cough up £30 million, a deal may yet go ahead. Chelsea may not need to avail of Online Payday Loans, but perhaps you may want to. Anyway, for what it’s worth, I have always wanted to see Ribery perform in England and I believe he would fit right into Andre Villas-Boas’ side.

Craig Bellamy is now as short as 4/7 to join Liverpool before the transfer window shuts at 11pm tonight.

The Manchester City striker looks set to leave the Etihad Stadium before tonight’s deadline and a number of clubs are said to be interested.

It was reported earlier that QPR were closing on Bellamy’s signature. However, it then became clear that the Premier League new-boys would face competition from Stoke City for the player.

But, with less than 8 hours to go now, Bellamy’s former employers, Liverpool, are now the favourites to secure his services. The 32-year old is desperate to leave City, with first team opportunities under Roberto Mancini likely to be non-existent this season.

I have always been a massive fan of Bellamy’s and I personally believe he deserves to be playing Premier League football week in, week out. It will be intriguing to see if he does indeed end up back at Anfield by 11pm tonight. The money certainly seems to think he will be a Liverpool player once again.

We are now just over 24 hours away from the close of the 2011 summer transfer window and as you would expect, the number of rumours circulating are growing. Go to the Football Corner Facebook page to join over 600 football fans, and we will be bringing you all the very latest rumours and confirmed deals over the hectic next day or so.

Arsenal are close to securing the services of Werder Bremen defender Per Mertesacker after ending their interest in Bolton’s Gary Cahill. Mertesacker, 26, is almost as tall at Tottenham’s Peter Crouch, with the German standing at a massive 6ft 6in and good news for Guners fans, he’s quite good. The player is set to undergo a medical today ahead of a £10 million move.

Elsewhere, Liverpool have turned down a bid by Premier League rivals Chelsea for their midfielder Raul Meireles. The Stamford Bridge club had offered £8 million plus former-Reds midfielder Yossi Benayoun. However, the men that matter at Anfield have turned it down and it remains to be seen if another bid will be made.

Meanwhile, Tottenham are expected to make a late move for long-term Arsenal target and England international Gary Cahill. The Bolton defender has been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates. However, as was mentioned earlier in this piece, Arsenal have ended their interest in the player, leaving the door open for Harry Redknapp to move. It is believed Bolton are looking for somewhere near the £14 million mark for Cahill.

And finally for now, former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves is on the verge of joining bitter rivals Manchester City. The former England international has struggled, to say the least, with injury over the last few years. However, Roberto Mancini has decided to take a punt on a player who many rated very highly during his early days at Old Trafford. The medical is currently taking place and Hargreaves is expected to pen a pay-as-you-play deal later tonight, early tomorrow morning.

What do you think will happen with these proposed deals? Comments below please.

Just hours after it was officially announced that Tottenham had agreed a deal to take Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor on loan for a season, it has been suggested that Liverpool midfielder Joe Cole could also be on his way to White Hart Lane.

Cole, 29, has struggled to make an impact in the red of Liverpool since he joined the Merseyside club from Chelsea last summer. Since making the move, Cole has played 32 times for the Anfield club. However, many of those appearances came as a substitute and with an abundance of midfielders now at Liverpool, he has falling further down the pecking order under manager Kenny Dalglish.

As a result, speculation has been mounting with regards the possibility of Cole making a move this summer and reports on Thursday night have suggested that he is on his way to Tottenham.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is a keen admirer of Cole’s and the pair have already worked together during their days at West Ham. It would seem Cole is desperate to make the move to north London and it seems a really possibility now that he will be wearing a Spurs jersey before the transfer window shuts next week.

Personal view on the matter. Cole would be a great signing for Spurs and it would give the player the platform to re-ignite his career. Will the deal happen though? Well, I’d be very surprised if it didn’t, put it that way.

What do you make of this potential deal, and indeed, what do you make of Adebayor’s move to White Hart Lane? Comments below please.
