After what feels like an eternity, it would, fingers crossed, seem we are finally nearing an end to the Carlos Tevez transfer saga. The Manchester City striker has been linked with a whole host of clubs in recent weeks and months after the Premier League leaders confirmed their desire to offload the Argentine.

This all stems from Tevez’s refusal to come on as a 2nd half substitute during City’s 2-0 Champions League defeat away to Bayern Munich all the way back in September. A clearly seething Roberto Mancini stated after that game that Tevez would never play for the club again as long as he was manager and the Italian has stuck to his word.

Serie A giants AC and Inter Milan have long been linked with moves for Tevez, 27. However, neither club have been able to reach an agreement with City officials, leaving the door open for Paris Saint-Germain to enter the race.

The French outfit are set to meet with Tevez’s representatives on Thursday with a view to completing a move early next week. Money is not an issue for PSG anymore after they were taken over last summer by Qatar Sports Investments, who, if you believe what you read, are friends with the owners of City.

New PSG manager, Carlo Ancelotti, had this to say regards a possible move for the former Manchester United and West Ham man: “Carlos Tevez – it’s a great opportunity for us to have a great striker. Today Tevez isn’t playing for Manchester City, but he wants to play. Today, nothing is done. We have to talk with the player, and with Manchester City. We hope to find a good solution.”

It is thought that a deal worth £25 million could be complete in a matter of days.

Like me, I’m sure you are as desperate to see an end to this one. There is no doubting his ability as a player, but it’s fair to say that the Premier League won’t be losing anything when Tevez does leave. Yes, he can scores goals, but he is not someone you can fully rely on and the way he has conducted himself over the last 6 months has been nothing short of pathetic.

It wasn’t pretty, but a solitary Edin Dzeko goal was enough to earn Manchester City a hard-fought 1-0 win away to the Premier League’s bottom side, Wigan.

Like many games at the DW Stadium this year, this one was spoiled due to huge divots popping up all over the playing surface. Misplaced passes were the order of the day as both sides struggled to find any sort of rhythm.

Roberto Mancini’s side had a number of chances inside the Wigan box from well-timed crosses in the opening exchanges. However, both Stefan Savic and the match winner Dzeko failed to convert early on. The only goal came with 22 minutes on the clock.

A David Silva free whipped in from the left found the head of Dzeko who saw his glancing header beat Ali Al Habsi in the Wigan goal, to end an 11-game drought for the Bosnian.

Referee Martin Atkinson should have reduced the home side to ten men when Maynor Figueroa blatantly handled the ball on the half-way line to prevent Sergio Aguero from going through on goal. Atkinson opted instead to only show the Wigan defender a yellow card, much to the dismay of the City players and coaching staff.

It really was a game in which no player stood out. City keeper Joe Hart was awarded the man of the match, and to be fair, it was probably the right decision. He didn’t have a whole lot to do, but when called upon, the England stopper displayed his usual class.

With this result, City now move three points clear of neighbours United at the top of the table, and are now five points clear of their next opponents, Tottenham. Sunday’s games, City v Tottenham and Arsenal v United, could well be decisive in this season’s title race. City win and United fail to pick up all three points and that could be it.

What do you think? Feel free to leave your comments below.

Pure laziness on our part, but we are back now and have big plans for the coming weeks and months, including a redesign of the site, which we hope you’ll appreciate.

Anyway, we simply want to know now who you think will be lifting the Premier League title come the end of the season. We, like the majority of others, see it as a three horse race between Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham, who it has to be said, have done incredibly well so far this season.

So, let’s have a vote.

The winners of this season’s Premier League will be…

Don’t be afraid to comment also in the section provided. For what it’s worth, our vote goes to Manchester City. We believe they will just have too much in the end and will win it by 5 or 6 points.

The Sunday papers are once again full of transfer talk so we thought we would take the liberty to bring you some of the rumours which took our eye.

Ravel Morrison, the Manchester United youngster who has upset Sir Alex Ferguson due to his “unrealistic” wage demands, is apparently wanted by both Arsenal and Barcelona. The 18-year old is tipped by many to go a long way in the game, but it would appear his futures lies away from Old Trafford after he turned down a deal worth up to £15,ooo a-week.

Arsene Wenger and Pep Guardiola are said to be monitoring the highly-rated midfielder’s situation and with Morrison’s current United deal set to expire this summer, the next few days and weeks are bound to see

Meanwhile, Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini is desperate to add steel to his midfield during this transfer window and a name which continues to be mentioned is that of Roma’s Daniele de Rossi. The Italian international has long been linked with a move away from Serie A, with a number of Europe’s elite said to be interested, but for whatever reasons, he remains a Roma player.

But that may be about to change. Mancini has been a long-term admirer of the 28-year old’s and is keen to bring him to the Etihad Stadium in an attempt to aid his side’s title challenge. It is expected that City would have to cough up at least £25 million if they want de Rossi, but with the financial fair play rule in the club’s thoughts, they may have to offload some players first.

And finally for now, Tottenham are preparing a £20 million move for Marseille striker Loic Remy. The 25-year old has been heavily linked with a move away from the French giants for the last year or two and Spurs have always held a keen interest. Harry Redknapp is looking to add two or three faces to his squad before the window shuts as the Spurs boss looks to maintain the club’s title challenge. Remy is to be watched by Spurs officials during tonight’s encounter between Marseille and Lille.

So that’s it for now. Intriguing stuff involving the top three clubs in the Premier League and be sure to stay tuned to Football Corner for all the latest on these and all the other potential deals.

Manchester City 3-1 Newcastle.

These two sides went into their encounter at the Etihad Stadium as the only unbeaten teams remaining in the Premier League.

At the final whistle, it was Manchester City who maintained their impressive start to the campaign, leaving Alan Pardew and Newcastle with the their first taste of defeat so far this season.

Both sides struggled to get a grip on proceedings in the opening half hour, with City perhaps having the upper hand. The man who has recieved plenty of headlines so far this season for both the wrong and right reasons, Mario Balotelli, opened the scoring from the penalty spot.

Newcastle’s Ryan Taylor was adjudged to have handled the ball inside his own area and Chris Foy duly pointed to the spot. Balotelli made no mistake from the spot and celebrated in typically nonchalant fashion, by simply folding his arms and starring at the home crowd.

City’s lead was doubled just minutes later when man-of-the-match on the afternoon, Micah Richards did well to volley the ball beyond Tim Krul in the Newcastle goal. At this stage, Newcastle were desperate to hear the half-time whistle, and thankfully for them, the whistled arrived with the Magpies just two behind.

Newcastle came out in the 2nd half with more intensity, but still City looked threatening on the break. Hatem Ben Arfa, making his first Premier League appearance since breaking his leg at the same ground 13 months ago, almost made the score 2-1 just after the hour mark. However, his effort bounced back off the post and was then cleared by a City defender.

The home side made sure of the three points when Serio Aguero converted from the spot after Richards had been bundled over in the Newcastle area. City pushed for a fourth, but it was Newcastle who managed to score next when Dan Gosling grabbed a consolation, tapping in from just a few yards out.

All in all, it was a fairly routine victory for Roberto Mancini’s men, but Newcastle can be proud of their effort knowing that they put it up to the league leaders for much of the game. Next up for City is a trip to Naples to face Napoli in a game they really can’t afford to lose. For Newcastle, it doesn’t get any easier. They travel to Old Trafford next to face Manchester United.

Well what a day it was. Plenty of deals just about beat the 11pm deadline and I am sure, like me, a lot of you found yourselves glued to Sky Sports News for most of the day.

Chelsea pulled off one of the most surprise moves of the whole window as they snapped up Liverpool midfielder Raul Meireles late in the day for a fee of around £12 million. The Portuguese international handed in a written transfer request at Anfield on deadline day and got his wish for a move away from the club, but it wasn’t until just after the 11pm deadline that the deal was confirmed.

Liverpool also said goodbye, for now at least, to another midfielder. Joe Cole departed for a season-long loan with French Champions Lille. The former West Ham man made the switch to Ligue 1 despite late interest from Premier League side Aston Villa.

Staying with Liverpool and Kenny Dalglish secured the signing of Craig Bellamy late on Wednesday night following a day of intense speculation regarding the player’s future. The now ex-Manchester City striker had been tipped to make the move to Premier League new-boys QPR earlier in the day. However, once Liverpool declared their interest, it seemed their was only one destination for Bellamy and that was Merseyside. Bellamy, 32, has of coursed already played in the red of Liverpool and fans will no doubt welcome him back with open arms (well, the majority of them anyway).

Arsenal also got in on the act on deadline day. They signed Chelsea’s Yossi Benayoun on a season-long loan deal, whilst they also completed the signing of Everton’s Mikel Arteta for a fee of £10 million. Arteta’s move seemed dead in the water with just a few hours to go before the window shut. However, all parties involved eventually came to an agreement and Arteta will now be wearing the red and white of Arsenal this season and not the blue of Everton.

Two clubs who were very busy throughout Wednesday were both Stoke City and indeed QPR who both made signifcant additions to their squads. Stoke boss Tony Pulis can now select these three in his starting eleven; Wilson Palacios, Cameron Jerome and Peter Crouch after a busy day of spending at the Britannia. Meanwhile, QPR manager Neil Warnock managed to add the likes of Shaun Wright-Phillips, Jason Puncheon and Anton Ferdinand after a hectic 24 hours at Loftus Road.

And finally, Fulham completed the £10 million signing of FC Twente striker Bryan Ruiz, despite some very late interest from Newcastle United.

It really was an eventful day with plenty of money been splashed on different players throughout the Premier League (Speaking of splashing the cash, check out www.freebets.org today where you can avail of many different offers from leading bookmakers).

So with just an hour to go before the transfer window shuts, two big deals look to be close to completion.

Craig Bellamy’s move from Manchester City to Liverpool is on the brink, with the Welsh international currently on Merseyside, crossing the t’s and dotting the i’s as they say in the business.

After a hectic day of speculation surrounding the 32-year old’s future, it looks as though Bellamy will be posing with a Liverpool shirt at Anfield tomorrow, 4 years after he left the club.

Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta’s on-off move to Arsenal appears to be firmly on at this stage. The Everton midfielder has told David Moyes that he wants out of Goodison Park and Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is only too happy to hand £10 million over to sign the Spaniard.

The fee has been agreed, all that is needed is for a medical to be carried out, and Arteta to agree personal terms with the north London club.

Both deals, in our opinion, will go through before the 11pm deadline. What do you think though? Comments below please.

The Manchester City striker looks set to leave the Etihad Stadium before tonight’s deadline and a number of clubs are said to be interested.

It was reported earlier that QPR were closing on Bellamy’s signature. However, it then became clear that the Premier League new-boys would face competition from Stoke City for the player.

But, with less than 8 hours to go now, Bellamy’s former employers, Liverpool, are now the favourites to secure his services. The 32-year old is desperate to leave City, with first team opportunities under Roberto Mancini likely to be non-existent this season.

I have always been a massive fan of Bellamy’s and I personally believe he deserves to be playing Premier League football week in, week out. It will be intriguing to see if he does indeed end up back at Anfield by 11pm tonight. The money certainly seems to think he will be a Liverpool player once again.
