9 clubs. 9 clubs Robbie and you are only 31-years old. My word.

In case you haven’t heard already, the Republic of Ireland’s record goalscorer Robbie Keane has tonight finalised his move to “boyhood heroes” LA Galaxy. Keane has put pen-to-paper on a two-year deal to play for the Galaxy.

Just last week, Keane claimed that he would not move to a club outside the Premier League, all but suggesting he was too good to make a move to the Championship. Instead, the Tallaght native has opted for a switch to MLS outfit LA Galaxy in a deal which sees Keane’s now former employers, Tottenham, receiving £3 million.

Speaking about the move, Keane had this to say: “I am delighted, honoured and very excited to be joining the LA Galaxy. I have always wanted to come and play in MLS so it’s the perfect combination for me and a dream come true.”

Yes Robbie, you’ve always wanted to play in the MLS. Also, “a dream come true”? Get a grip Robbie. Terrible move for his international career and to be honest, I am now hoping Giovanni Trapattoni selects Shane Long and Kevin Doyle ahead of him when the next international comes around. After all, Trap did say a player has to be lining out every weekend in the Premier League to make it into his team.

Robbie Keane has insisted that he is still good enough to play in the Premier League, while admitting his days at White Hart Lane are subsequently over. Speaking at a Press conference in Dublin ahead of Ireland’s friendly with Croatia, the Irish skipper, while refusing to be drawn on specific details, claimed a move was very much on the cards.

“It’s probably likely that I will be going but I can’t really answer where to at the moment,” Keane said. “There’s obviously a lot of speculation but there’s still a couple of weeks to go and we’ll see what happens, I’m sure in the next couple of weeks it will be sorted out. It’s very unlikely anything will happen before the weekend.”

Upon being asked if his preference was to stay in London, Keane said: “No, I’ll move. I’m quite happy to go anywhere, for me; it’s just about playing regular football and if that’s outside London I’m not too bothered.” Keane spent the second half of last season on loan with relegated West Ham, failing to make an impact at Upton Park scoring just the two goals in nine appearances in what was an injury stricken spell.

When questioned about which division he might end up in, he did indicate that he was looking to stay in the top flight: “Of course clubs have to agree a fee but, not being disrespectful at all to the Championship, if I got an option to play in the Premier League, I’m obviously going to take that.

Keane looks set to lead out his country tonight at the Aviva stadium for his 109th cap and has proved his lack of game time at club level has not affected his eye for goal, netting on 6 occassions in his last 4 games for Ireland.

The uncertainty over Keane’s club future looks set to drag on for a while yet, although there appears little danger of it knocking his confidence ahead of next month’s double-header. Laughing, he said: “I’ve had this for nearly the last 12 years – speculation every summer. It doesn’t bother me.

“I’m quite confident in my own ability. I’m not big-headed – I’m just confident that if I get a chance I’ll score a goal, and I’ve been like that since I was a kid. You have to keep yourself mentally strong and I think as a person, I am mentally strong – that’s maybe why I get through.”

So where do you see the Ireland captain playing his football this season? And can he still perform at the highest level week in, week out? Comments below please.

Robbie Keane looks set to remain a Premier League player as QPR and Fulham battle it out for his signature.

Keane, 30, has had a difficult time in his second spell at White Hart lane, returning to Spurs after a disappointing season at Liverpool, and found himself slip down the pecking order behind Jermain Defoe, Peter Crouch and Roman Pavlyuchenko.

The Irishman has spent the majority of the last two years out on loan at Celtic and West Ham, but is hoping to finally settle down and find form after gaining a reputation as somewhat of a journeyman.

Keane has plied his trade at eight different clubs, but as he enters the twilight years of his career, he will hope to find a home to rejuvenate his club form, and it is also believed that he wishes to remain in the English capital.

New Fulham boss Martin Jol has openly taked about his admiration for Keane, while fellow Londoners QPR will look to bring Premier League experience to their newly promoted side as they hope to secure the services of a proven goalscorer. Tottenham are also thought to be keen to unload the striker, who has one year remaining on his contract, as they look to wipe his £65,000 a week off their wage salary.

Keane took his international tally to 51 goals in Macedonia on Saturday, making him the top British or Irish international goalscorer. Equally as impressive, Keane is now level on international goals with Arsenal legend Thierry Henry, in 15 less caps for his country (with poorer service it has to be said).

The Irish skipper is almost certain to be on the move this summer, whether it be a loan move or a cut-price transfer, but either way he will surely be a bargain for his new club.

If you believe what you read in the papers, Robbie Keane could be set to sign for new club number 9 with the Republic of Ireland international attracting interest from both Sunderland and Aston Villa.

Keane, 29, left Tottenham back in January to spend the rest of this season on loan at Scottish giants side Celtic and in fairness to him, he has been scoring for fun in what has been a largely disappointing season for the Glasgow club.

With Tottenham now having 4 quality strikers on their books in the form of Jermain Defoe, Peter Crouch, Roman Pavlyuchenko and Eidur Gudjohnsen, it is thought that Keane has no future at White Hart Lane and should a bid of around £8 million come in for him, he will be sent packing.

Sunderland boss Steve Bruce is understood to be very keen on the former Wolves, Coventry, Inter Milan, Leeds and Liverpool striker. With Darren Bent currently banging in the goals for the Black Cats, I reckon the pair, who used to play together at Tottenham, could form a decent partnership at the Stadium of Light.

Martin O’Neill is also believed to be keen to bring Keane to Villa Park, however it remains to be seen whether O’Neill will still be in charge at Aston Villa come the start of next season. There has been talk that O’Neill and Villa owner, Randy Lerner, no longer see eye to eye with one another and that O’Neill’s departure may be imminent.

I’m keen to hear what you have to say on this one. Will Keane leave Tottenham this summer for new club number 9? Comments below please.

The transfer window has been open for over a week now and Robbie Keane’s name seems to be mentioned every day in the BBC gossip column and today is no different.

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has warned off any potential bids for Robbie Keane, stating it will take a bid of at least £50 million if he is to even consider selling his captain.

Speaking in Saturday’s Sun newspaper, Redknapp had this to say : “Please God, he’ll still be here in February. I don’t see any way Robbie won’t be here unless someone comes up with £50 million or something for him.”

Keane, 29, has spent much of this season on the Spurs bench, with Redknapp opting to start Peter Crouch and Jermain Defoe ahead of the Republic of Ireland captain for the most part of the campaign. Since returning to White Hart Lane last January after an unsuccessful spell at Liverpool, Keane has scored 14 goals in just over 30 appearances.

Celtic and AstonVilla continue to be linked with a January move for Keane, however Redknapp’s comments today are likely to see the rumours decrease somewhat. I would personally like to see Keane leave Spurs during this transfer window because he is a player whom I rate very highly. There is no point having a player with so much ability sitting on the bench every weekend.

What do you think? Comments below please.

It is perhaps unsurprising that as we get ready for the January transfer window, the name Robbie Keane is at the centre of much of the transfer speculation.

The Tottenham striker has made no fewer than seven moves in his 12 year career, however it seems as though he may be about to turn that seven into an eight.

Keane, 29, looks to be on his way out of White Hart Lane after Spurs boss Harry Redknapp threatened to strip the Republic of Ireland international of his captaincy at the club, due to his heavy involvement in the now infamous Christmas party earlier this month.

Regardless of any christmas parties, I personally think that Keane himself may have looked for a move away from north London next month, giving the fact that he has fallen down in the pecking order of late at the club. As it is, Keane might be forced out of the club to an extent, however only time will tell.

Celtic are among the favourites to sign the former Liverpool, Inter Milan, Leeds, Coventry and Wolves striker, with Tony Mowbray priced at 4/1 during the upcoming window. Sunderland are 6/1 whilst midlands rivals Aston Villa and Birmingham are both 16/1 to sign Keane.

I really don’t know what’s going to happen in the coming weeks, however I would not be at all surprised to see Keano on the move once again.

Carlo Ancelotti’s Chelsea fell to their first defeat of the season away to Roberto Martinez’ Wigan. Saturday’s game at the DW Stadium finished 3-1 to the Latics, with Titus Bramble, Hugo Rodallega and Paul Scharner all getting on the scoresheet for the home side.

Didier Drogba briefly brought the sides level, however the sending off of Chelsea keeper Petr Cech proved decisive in the end. It will be interesting to see how Ancelotti’s Chelsea respond to yesterday’s defeat at the hands of Wigan. They face Liverpool at Stamford Bridge next weekend in what promises to be a fascinating affair.

Meanwhile, Portsmouth just can’t stop losing. Paul Hart’s men fell to their seventh straight defeat this season at home to Everton. A first half striker from Louis Saha earned David Moyes’ men all three points, leaving many people questioning how much longer can Hart survive in the hot seat at Fratton Park. Defeat to Wolves next week will surely spell the end for Hart, not that it will help Pompey because, for me, they are already heading for the Championship.

Finally, four goals from Robbie Keane helped Tottenham get back to winning ways at home to Burnley yesterday. The 5-0 win at White Hart Lane was the side’s first league win since the end of August. I was delighted to see Keane bag so many goals yesterday because since he has returned to Spurs, he has struggled somewhat to find the back of the net.

What are your views on this weekend’s action? Comments below please.
