The Republic of Ireland international has struggled to get any first team football this season and is desperate to leave the club.

Given, 34, has been linked with a number of Premier League and Championship clubs over the last six months, but it looks as though he is now on the brink of joining Cardiff City on loan until the end of the season.

To be perfectly honest, I’m shocked Given isn’t moving to another Premier League team. He is, without doubt, one of the best shot stoppers in the game and I for one am surprised to see him join Cardiff. Great move for Cardiff though.

Shay Given has spent the majority of this season sitting on the bench after City boss Roberto Mancini opted to make Joe Hart his first choice goalkeeper.

Mancini has already stated that he won’t stand in the way of Given leaving Eastlands if someone is to come in with a bid for him in January and according the papers, there definitely isn’t a shortage of interested parties.

The likes of Arsenal, Fulham, Celtic, Roma and even his old club Newcastle are all understood to be interested in the 34-year old.

I really haven’t a clue where Given will be plying his trade after the window shuts, but for my money, I don’t think see what all the fuss is about with Given. He is an outstanding shot-stopper. However, I don’t rate him very highly as an all-round keeper.

Where do you think Given will be playing after January? Comments below please.

Manuel Almunia has come in for a lot of criticism in recent weeks with many Arsenal fans calling for Arsene Wenger to sign a new goalkeeper.

Mark Schwarzer and Shay Given were both strongly linked with a move to the Emirates. However, nothing ever materialised on either front and as a result, Almunia will remain Arsenal’s number one choice keeper.

If Arsenal were to challenge for the Premier League title this season, I personally felt they needed to sign a new keeper. No matter what way you look at it, Almunia is simply not good enough to be Arsenal’s first choice keeper andI can now see Arsenal struggling to mount any kind of title challenge.

Manchester City keeper Joe Hart has three years left on his contract but is currently one of the lowest-paid members of the squad on a reported £28,000 a week.

Now, the club are set to offer him a new five year contract worth £70,000 a week, a massive £42,000 a week pay rise. The club also want to put Hart further off-limits by placing a £20 million price-tag on his head.

But, where to next for the Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Shay Given?

Given, 34, has been linked with a move to Arsenal, Celtic and Fulham over the previous weeks and now it seems AS Roma have entered the race to sign City’s out-of-favour goalie. One Italian paper reported that City were looking to recoup £2-3 million for the former Newcastle man.

Given had previously warned that he would leave if he was dropped as City’s number one and now that has happened, it seems Given is sticking to his promise.

It seems City now want to sign Stoke goalkeeper Asmir Begovic as backup to Hart. Chelsea recently had a £4 million rejected by Stoke for Begovic but City are understood to be monitoring the situation as they prepare for life without Given. Begovic is particularly attractive to top clubs because his time at Portsmouth’s academy means he qualifies as a home-grown player under new Premier League rules.

So where do you think Given will go next?

Personally, I believe Mark Schwarzer will go to Arsenal and Given will re-join his old manager Mark Hughes at Fulham. But that’s just what I think, we want to hear where you think he will go and whether or not you reckon Hart is deservedly City’s first choice keeper?

Anyway, less about him and more about the man who sat on the bench for Manchester City on Saturday, Shay Given.

If you believe some reports, the Republic of Ireland keeper could be on his way to Arsenal in the coming days.

The 34-year old admitted before Saturday’s game against Tottenham that he would consider his options if he didn’t start the game and with Joe Hart having had a terrific game for City, it appears unlikely that Given will be Mancini’s first choice any time soon.

Roberto Mancini will have to make the difficult decision as to who he starts in goal for the game at White Hart Lane. Joe Hart and Shay Given are both desperate to be given the nod by Mancini and it is widely expected that whoever misses out will be on their way out of Eastlands before the transfer window shuts later this month.

In my opinion, Hart is a better all-round keeper and I would be very surprised if he isn’t the one who starts on Saturday for City. Given is, without doubt, one of the best shot stoppers in the Premier League but I personally believe he lacks many of the abilities needed to be a quality keeper.

So who do you think should start and why. Hart or Given? Comments below please.

Shay Given has admitted that he will consider his future at Manchester City is he does not start in goal against Tottenham this weekend.

It remains unclear if Given or Joe Hart will start City’s opening game of the Premier League season this Saturday and one club who will no doubt be monitoring the situation is Arsenal.

Speaking earlier today, Given had this to say: “If I don’t start then I will sit down with the club next week and see where my future lies, and maybe it will be vice-versa with Joe.”

Personally, I have never really rated Given as a goalkeeper. There is no denying that he is an incredible shot stopper but his all-round abilities as a keeper have never impressed me.

So then, we want to know what you Arsenal and indeed City fans have to say on this one. Feel free to leave your comments below.

You can buy both Arsenal tickets and Manchester City tickets right now.

Before I begin, this really hasn’t been mooted anywhere but now that Manchester City have written to the FA asking for permission to bring in a keeper on an emergency loan deal, I really think this could happen.

Portsmouth keeper David James used to play for Manchester City and there is no denying he is still a good goalkeeper at the grand age of 39. With 3 massive games coming up for City, they obviously need a solid, reliable keeper to play in their remaining games and I think James is the man.

Manchester City would have no problem throwing Pompey a few quid for James and there is no doubt the south coast club could do with a few more pound coins. James spent 2 years at Eastlands and I for one feel he could do a job for City in this all important run-in.

The only thing that may prevent the move is Portsmouth’s FA Cup final which takes place a week after the Premier League campaign finishes.

I really am keen to hear what you have to say on this. Comments below please.
