Craig Bellamy is now as short as 4/7 to join Liverpool before the transfer window shuts at 11pm tonight.

The Manchester City striker looks set to leave the Etihad Stadium before tonight’s deadline and a number of clubs are said to be interested.

It was reported earlier that QPR were closing on Bellamy’s signature. However, it then became clear that the Premier League new-boys would face competition from Stoke City for the player.

But, with less than 8 hours to go now, Bellamy’s former employers, Liverpool, are now the favourites to secure his services. The 32-year old is desperate to leave City, with first team opportunities under Roberto Mancini likely to be non-existent this season.

I have always been a massive fan of Bellamy’s and I personally believe he deserves to be playing Premier League football week in, week out. It will be intriguing to see if he does indeed end up back at Anfield by 11pm tonight. The money certainly seems to think he will be a Liverpool player once again.

The Italian has come under severe pressure in recent weeks, however the club’s owners maintain that they are fully behind their manager.

Speaking after today’s game against Stoke, Zola had this to say when asked about the possibility of him resigning :

“I have to find out what the problem is. If the problem is me then why not? I will consider overnight whether I am doing a good job or not.”

I would be extremely surprised if Zola didn’t step down as the Hammers boss tomorrow. Things simply haven’t worked out for him at Upton Park and maybe it’s best for himself and indeed the club if he was to leave.

I am very keen to hear what you have to say on this one. Will Zola leave? Comments below please.

First and foremost, it was an horrendous tackle from Stoke City’s Ryan Shawcross which now leaves Arsenal midfielder, Aaron Ramsey’s career in the balance.

“I’m not very happy with the tackle.” said Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger following his side’s 3-1 victory at the Britannia last night.

“I just want to say we know what we are expecting, a battle everywhere, but we have now lost three players – (Abou) Diaby, Eduardo and Ramsey today, a boy of 19 years old – on horrendous tackles. It’s always coincidence. I don’t believe in coincidence when you are hit as many times as we do.”

“We know what it is always to be physical against Arsenal and what questions I get in press conferences we don’t fancy the physical side of it, that’s what the result is.”

In this situation, I personally feel extremely sorry for Shawcross because, as has been said hundreds of times both last night and this morning, he’s not that sort of player. From seeing the incident several times now, I firmly believe he didn’t go to hurt Ramsey. Shawcross went into the challenge fully committed and unfortunately it resulted in an horrific leg break for Ramsey.

In a sense, I do agree that teams may play a bit harder when they face Arsenal, however unlike Wenger, I feel it is purely coincidence that several of his players have suffered horrific injuries over the past 18 months or so.

I’m keen to hear what you have to say on this one. Comments below please.

From everyone at Football Corner, we wish Aaron a very speedy recovery and hope to see him back playing early next season.

Send him a get well card or a few postcards.

A club who already has a wealth of talented midfielders amongst their ranks, bringing a 33-year old has-been back to the Premier League was quite a bizarre decision in my book.

Since arriving at Eastlands on the 8th of January, Vieira has made 4 appearances for City and to be honest, bar one exceptional pass (his assist for Adebayor’s goal against Bolton) he has been a passenger.

Last night, Roberto Mancini’s men were lucky to draw 1-1 away to Tony Pulis’ Stoke City with Vieira making no impact on the game and even the most ardent City fan will admit he should have been sent off.

The French midfielder decided to kick Glen Whelan right in the you-know-whats and if the FA have any common sense, he will be banned for the next 3 games, which will be good for Manchester City.

Why would that be good for City, I hear you cry?

Well, I am a massive fan of Stephen Ireland’s and why Mancini has decided to leave him out recently really does baffle me. Ireland is a player who can win you games single-handed and I feel it is vital he plays in what is undoubtedly City’s biggest game of the season on Sunday. Liverpool at home.

What do you think? Would a 3-game ban for Patrick Vieira be good news for Manchester City? Comments below please.

Another busy day in the transfer market, so let’s not waste any time.

First up, there are reports today that Manchester City are apparently ready to spend a ridiculous sum of £14 million on Portsmouth defender Younes Kaboul. Roberto Mancini is keen to add a defender or two to the ranks at Eastlands, however at £14 million I honestly feel City would be wasting their money.

Admittedly, Kaboul has been one of Potsmouth’s top performers this season but that really is nothing to boast about considering the fact they are currently sitting rock bottom of the Premier League table. I would much rather see City put £14 million towards signing someone like Yaya Toure than go for Kaboul.

Meanwhile, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has today told his players to handle the ball if they are about to go down injured. His comments come after Saturday’s 2-2 draw at home to Everton, where the visitors almost capitalised when Denilson was down injured.

Wenger had this to say : “I said to Denilson: ‘If that happens, you have to commit a handball.’ I’m very serious. If you go down, and there hasn’t been a foul, you cannot ask Everton to stop their counter-attack. At least put your hand on the ball and it’s a free-kick.” Despite the fact it’s against the rules to handle the ball, I would have to agree with Wenger’s thinking. Yeah, you might get a yellow card for deliberate handball but at least you’re not conceding a goal.

Finally, Stoke City have this evening confirmed that they are interested in bringing Real Madrid striker Ruud Van Nistelrooy to the Britannia Stadium. The Dutch striker has been strongly linked with a move back to the Premier League in recent days with reports claiming a six-month loan deal may be on the cards. Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham are reported to be interested in the 33-year old, however Stoke are the first club to openly admit an interest.

Stoke chairman Peter Coates had this to say today : “We’re interested in pursuing it and we’ll see where we can get with this. We’re going to see if there’s a way of doing a deal. You never know. It could be a loan deal. The key thing is whether Ruud himself would be keen to come.” I think the answer to the last question maybe a resounding no from Van Nistelrooy himself, but we’ll have to wait and see.

Have your say on all the above by leaving a comment below.

If I had said that three years ago, you probably would have laughed at me, however, I am sure many of you now agree with me.

There is certainly no second season syndrome at the Britannia stadium. Saturday’s victory over Tottenham leaves Stoke City in a healthy 9th place in the Premier League, just three points off a Europa League spot.

It may be early days, but you must admit, at the rate they’re going, Tony Pulis can definitely lead Stoke into Europe.

Just like last season, Stoke’s home form has been outstanding this time around. They have beaten the likes of West Ham and Sunderland at home and despite being comfortably beaten by Manchester United, they were unlucky not to get anything from their game against Chelsea.

Bar a 4-0 hammering against Liverpool, Stoke’s haven’t been beaten on the road this season. Draws away to Everton, Bolton and Birmingham as well as the 1-0 victory on Saturday at White Hart Lane has seen Stoke earn six points away from home this season, which is over half the amount of points they won away from the Britannia last season.

Stoke are currently a 12/1 shot on Betfair to finish in the top six this season and in my opinion, that represents a bit of value.

What do you think? Can Stoke really make it into Europe this season? Comments below please.

Stoke City defender Ryan Shawcross has been linked with a number of clubs in recent days, however it looks as though Liverpool remain the only club with a genuine interest.

Shawcross, 21, is widely regarded as one of the best young defenders in the Premier League and Rafa Benitez knows he needs to fill the void left by Sami Hyypia’s departure last season, so it would certainly make sense for Liverpool to make a move.

Stoke boss Tony Pulis is obviously desperate to hold onto one of his most prized assets and he has today had this to say : “We want to keep Ryan among the younger players in the squad. He will be a big asset to us as this club looks to push on.”

Shawcross moved to the Britannia stadium back in 2007 on an initial one-year loan deal, however Stoke soon made that loan deal permanent. Shawcross cost Stoke just £2 million, however that £2 million would likely be quadrupled if any move to Liverpool was to happen.

I personally think Shawcross would a superb signing for Rafa Benitez. I have no doubt that over the next few years, Shawcross will become a regular in the England set-up and I certainly wouldn’t be backing against him making England’s squad for next year’s World Cup in South Africa.

What do you think? Would Shawcross be a good signing for Liverpool? Comments below please.
