“It is difficult because as a footballer you know people look up to you. You are role models whether you like it or not. You need to try and be aware of that and try and do your best on the pitch and try and do things well for kids to see.”

“When I first joined United, I used to go out to nightclubs, but it is very rare that I would go out to a nightclub now. It changes with age. I made that decision myself. I got into a few things that I shouldn’t have and I tried to change that. I am settled at home now, and it’s good. I am enjoying my life with my family. When you are home, you get your rest and it is definitely benefiting me.”

I’m sure you have all read what Rooney has been getting up to over the past few months. I have lost all respect for the Manchester United and England striker.

Feel free to leave your comments below.

For our 3rd ‘World Cup Top Tip’ we have gone for a 4/1 shot which, in my view is a certainty (as long as Fabio doesn’t rest him in the final group game that is).

SkyBet are offering odds of 4/1 for England striker Wayne Rooney to score in every group game at this summer’s World Cup in South Africa.

England are in Group C along with Algeria, Slovenia and USA so as long as Fabio Capello plays him in all three group games, I think this bet is a winner.

The Manchester United striker has just finished an extraordinary season on a personal level scoring 34 goals for the side who finished second in the Premier League.

The win for Alex Ferguson’s men puts them right back in the title race and leaves Roberto Mancini’s side in serious danger of missing out on that all important 4th place.

The decision by the FA to make Martin Atkinson the ref for today’s game was a strange one in my book considering his performance in the previous Manchester derby earlier this season where he added 4 minutes on and decided to play 7 minutes in the end.

Atkinson’s decision not to book United and England striker Wayne Rooney for his cynical foul on City midfielder Nigel de Jong really annoyed me. Rooney was nowhere near the ball when he decided to bring down de Jong and instead of showing Rooney a yellow card, which even the most ardent United fan wouldn’t have argued with, Atkinson decided to just award a free.

As I said before, I have no complaints about the result because it has to be said that over the course of the 90+3 minutes, United probably deserved the win but I just don’t understand why Rooney wasn’t booked.

I doubt it will be very long before they take him off.

Manchester United currently lead 2-0 against Bayern Munich but was Sir Alex Ferguson’s gamble to start Rooney worth it? I bet Fabio Capello doesn’t think it was.

UPDATE 1 : Rooney has signalled to the bench he is ok, but he is still doesn’t look comfortable.
UPDATE 2 : Manchester United now 3-0 up and Rooney is moving slightly better now but one suspects Ferguson may take him off at the break given the fact the game is nearly won.
UPDATE 3 : Manchester United 3-1 Bayern Munich. I wonder what Ferguson will do with Rooney now?
UPDATE 4 : Rooney is coming out for the 2nd half. Incredible!
UPDATE 5 : Rooney is now off with John O’Shea replacing him.
UPDATE 6 : Bayern have scored and if things stay as they are, the Germans are through.

The England striker was ruled out for 2-4 weeks just last Thursday after injuring his ankle in the 1st leg in Munich, however against all odds, Sir Alex Ferguson has decided to start him tonight.

I’m not sure if Ferguson is right to play Rooney from the start tonight given the circumstances, however, who am I to question Ferguson’s decision. I know one thing’s for sure, Fabio Capello will be covering his eyes every time Rooney goes in for a tackle during tonight’s game.

I’m keen to hear what you have to say on this one. Comments below please.

There has been talk today that Wayne Rooney may make a shock return to the Manchester United squad for Wednesday’s crucial Champions League quarter-final 2nd leg tie with Bayern Munich at Old Trafford.

The England striker was initially ruled out for 2-4 weeks last Thursday after it was announced he had damaged ankle ligaments during the 1st leg in Munich with Bayern, however it was reported earlier today that Rooney has made significant progress in his recovery from the injury.

It has been claimed by a handful of papers that Rooney has already been back in the gym, however he has yet to return to training which may prevent him from lining out on Tuesday.

The 24-year old missed his side’s 2-1 defeat against Chelsea on Saturday which know leaves United’s Premier League title bid in jeopardy. It would be incredible if Rooney did return for Wednesday’s game and personally, I think Ferguson should play him, even if he is only 70% fit.

Without him, I honestly believe United have no chance of reaching the semi’s. You saw on Saturday how much they missed Rooney and I think it would be the exact same on Wednesday if he doesn’t play. I’m keen to hear what you have to say on this one. Comments below please.

Predict the score in the Barcelona v Arsenal game on Tuesday and you could win yourself a prize. It’s that easy. Send your prediction for the game, along with the name of a player who you think will score in the game at the Camp Nou to football.corner@gmail.com. Good luck!
